What retard decided to make a new thread before bump limit?Repost>>216978866 #[citation completely nonexistent]Life on this planet didn’t even use oxygen for billions of years, oxygen was poisonous. It’s okay to watch sci-fi while not knowing about science, but please restrain yourself from pontificating on things you don’t understandhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Oxidation_Event
>>216985832Well how about this so far finding planets with functional biomes is extremely rare in general even if you want to pretend about the likelihood of shit like methane based ecosystems and silicon based life which is highly unlikely
>>216985926Your level of not-getting-it is impossible to unpick. It’s like I’m trying to talk about aviation with someone who is convinced that man cannot fly

>>216985832This is the first thread
>>216985968Faggot OP linked it in /plurb/
i'm a sucker for mystery box slop what are some underrated/obscure shows of the genre
>>216985956You are a midwit
>>216985981/plurb/ doesn't matter anymore, you're not big enough for your own general, and the next 3 years aren't gonna get any easier
Just let this Silo hoe be Swedish, who cares it's the future, this burger accent is laughably bad, how come every actor on this show is foreign btw
>>216986030I’m replying to someone who just said DNA water and oxygen are ubiquitous to life.I replied pointing out that life on Earth actually did not use oxygen for billions of years because it was poisonous. Your response was to tell me that finding planets with life is rare, which is a total non sequitur, and then being up methane ecosystems and silicon based life as unlikely. It’s like you scraped the dark corners of your brain for anything to say about xenobiology with no regard for whether it related at all to what I said
1. Severance2. Silo3. From9001. Pluribus
Fuck J.J. Abrams that piece of shit for starting this shit
BLESS mr. abrams for being so right about storytelling, autists keep seething
>>216986111I didn’t say that I said methan ecologies and silicone based life are extremely theoretical and improbable Right now it seems as though your best bets are heat + water I don’t care how much Star Trek you’ve watched

>>216985521Mystery Box isn't bad as long as they're fair. People like puzzles, and so what? By unfair at the extreme you have JoJo's Bizzare adventure where the solution to the stand du jour can't be discovered by the audience because the solution depends on some insight the audience could not have. JoJo works because it's not about the puzzle however - there is a puzzle but the entertainment isn't in solving it. It just 'gets solved'.If you can come up with fair but challenging and thought provoking puzzles season after season and have character development, you have basically an interesting show.
I've only seen Pluribus.. Are Severance, Silo, From, Fallout, and Bugonia any good or are they also bad? I don't want any more of my time wasted.
>>216986111>ackshually
>>216985521Incels/chuds don't understand that its possible for nothing to happen in a show without that show therefore being a mystery box show. All "mystery box" shows are "nothing ever happens" shows, but not all "nothing ever happens" shows are "mystery box" shows.
>>216987997Bugonia's good but it's not part of the 'genre'
>>216988031You can have arcs though. As one mystery box arc is winding down another can be starting. Two arcs can be going at once.
>>216987997>i've only driven a car, would I like these 4 cars and also this plane
>>216984869It's nuts how neither silo, severance, nor pluribus are gonna see any content at all for at least another 2-3 years at this fuckign rate. Wtf makes them so demented to crank shit out this slowly?Of everything i think Silo is the only one that's felt like it was actually using its budget or remotely justifying the timelines just in terms of set construction and props.
I watch and like all of these shows.
>>216986225JJ is a hack, but LOST is kino and it was because he had much less involvement in the show outside of the pilot. He's a good concept guy, but a bad writer.
>>216988418Isn't Silo filming the last 2 seasons now? Should be out within a year or so. Severance though yeah, it will be another 1.5 years minimum before we get anything else. It's insane that in the past shows were able to pump out 20+ episode seasons year over year, and now it's like 7-8 episodes every 2+ years, ridiculous. At least FROM is coming back next year, but man it's already been over a year since season 3 ended.
>>216987997>sevS1 and some eps of S2 were okay but it really is just a mystery box show. First viewing will be so much better when you don't actually know what's going on. Also just kinda meh at times.>SiloI really enjoy it personally, but I might just be a freak for the sets/props/world. Absolutely fucking dying to see how they start S3.>BugoniaKino
>>216987399Sorry, Sorry!I just wanted a cheeky way to butt into the conversation.Short answer is, in a work of fiction that has a programmed virus controlling the intelligent population to not harm any animals or pick any fruit obviously values the evolving biome.Longer answerIf they are coming here:-I dont know, trees, animals, fungus and bacteria make food and drugs. petrochemicals and nuclear fuel could get used up before they get here.If they are not coming here:-they are hippies and like to preserve nature -they want to curb any galactic competition -They just want us to signal back and dispute their Fermi paradox
>>216984869Very offensive thread to Silo and From combining them with the trash.
>>216987997Bugonia is very good, but I also really liked Pluribus. Skip the rest desu... watch Severance if you really want to. Do not watch From.
From isnt mystery box is it?
>>216988640how is it not a mystery box? It's the most "lost-like" show since lost.
i dunno I've never seen it thats why I asked.
>>216988505>Isn't Silo filming the last 2 seasons now?Yeah and they'll trickle that shit out over the next decade at this fucking rate>It's insane that in the past shows were able to pump out 20+ episode seasons year over yearYou know oddly I was recently reflecting on two syfy channel series>Battlestar Galactica (the '04 one) >The ExpanseBoth were pumping out episodes that looked as good or better than most of this stuff, often had among the best CGI available for their periods respectively, and were doing so year on year (mostly). Gets weirder still if you then consider how BSG was cranking out those 13-20 episode a season counts and had great writing and acting (well, the writing maybe took a dive after the second season), and yet you can watch The Expanse go from an already smaller episode count to EVEN SMALLER when amazon took over. Also the more I contemplate it, BSG and 90s Star Trek really make it sink in how potent just good solid classical character acting and musical composition is. I'll watch those for the rest of history, even for BSG's flaws in particular, but if i think of recent stuff there's... Andor? Mayyyyybe Silo mayyyybe not?
>>216984900All applel shows are fundamentally the same: extremely racially and sexually diverse, with no no other diversity and a wandering, mystery box plot that goes nowhere.>>216987997They're slop. Apple produced shows have no sense of taste and a bland aesthetic.
>>216988640More like a delaybox, it set up the mystery in the first episode and besides the trees and the kids, there isn't much more mystery. It's just delaying characters talking to each other, discovering or something happening. Lost introduced new strange shit all the time.
>>216988876Boy I can't wait for Neuromancer!
>>216988876me on the left
>>216988876>extremely racially and sexually diverse, with no no other diversity and a wandering, mystery box plot that goes nowhere.See was probably the worst offender for that with a black guy deuteragonist spreading his (in-universe) superior genes by having sex exclusively with white blonde women.
>>216989091Including repulsive jewish propaganda is to be expected.
>>216988861Well, Battlestar did have the writers strike impact production, but they also did that format where they split one season into two by doing 10 episodes in the first part of the year then another 10 a few months later. Today, battlestar would be an 8 season series because they would just split each season in 2. LOST in the meantime was network tv so it made sense they were pumping out 20+ episode seasons since the networks at the time viewed that as standard order, even so it was the most expensive network show ever made at the time. I mean it's probably stressful writing so many episodes in such a short span of time, but worth it in the long run. I mean shit there's always filler and people hate filler but some filler episodes are great and we would never get them if they just made 8 episode seasons of a show like lost or battlestar.

>>216988876>They're slop. Apple produced shows have no sense of taste and a bland aesthetic. That's Netflix. Most of Apple's shows are mediocre, but the few good ones they have are near HBO in quality. Foundation, Silo, Pluribus, Severance are all pretty solid shows. I haven't watched much more of their shows though and I'd assume most are pretty mediocre just like every other streaming service now. At least I can think of a few shows I actually want to watch on Apple, even though I pirate everything. Netflix is nothing but the lowest common denominator smoothbrained slop these days. The only quality shows they ever made were the early seasons of house of cards and a few other shows in the early days of streaming.
>>216984771>Why was she wearing homeless garb?I think it just looks like that because she got flung out of the car and rolled down a hill
I watched the beginning of the 3rd ep and saw some guy sit in a basement and eat canned dog food for what felt like 10 minutes. Does this really get better or is this some kinda collective prank? I really liked breaking bad but godamn, I only have so much good faith left

Silo is straight up not a good show.
