David S. Goyer’s THE FLASH (2005)>Barry Allen sacrifices himself to save Keystone City and passes his powers onto his nephew Wally West (Ryan Reynolds).>Wally is initially reluctant to follow in on his uncle’s footsteps, and develops a romance with journalist Linda Park (Grace Park). >Wally becomes the Flash to fight Barry’s old enemy Captain Cold (Robert Patrick), who returns to action due to Barry’s death.>Wally also fights evil speedster Zoom, who reveals himself as Barry’s protégé and Wally’s best friend Hunter Zolomon (Bradley Cooper), embittered about being crippled in the explosion that killed Barry, and that Barry chose Wally as his successor over him.>Wally manages to defeat Zoom and Captain Cold, proving himself a hero, and discovers that Barry is not dead, but lost in the Speed Force, vowing to rescue him.

Labs’ particle accelerator and learns how to control his powers with the help of S.T.A.R. Labs’ CEO, Dr. Harrison Wells.>Barry is in love with his childhood friend, journalist Iris West (Rachel McAdams), whose family adopted Barry after Barry’s father was wrongfully convicted for the murder of his mother.>Barry adopts the identity of the Flash to fight Leonard Snart, a mercenary armed with a cold gun capable of slowing him down who is eliminating S.T.A.R. Labs scientists on behalf of a mysterious employer.>The employer reveals himself as Wells, who is in fact Eobard Thawne, Barry’s nemesis from the future who travelled back in time and killed Barry’s mother, but became stranded in the past, forcing him to engineer Barry’s transformation into the Flash in order to steal his speed to return to his own time.>Barry arrests Snart before he kills Iris once she identifies him, defeats Thawne by trapping him in the Speed Force from where they both harness their power, prevents a singularity created by Thawne’s experiments from destroying Central City, and also exonerates his father and finally avenges his mother’s death.>Barry is later approached by Green Lantern (Ryan Reynolds), who wants to recruit Barry for the Justice League.
