>The name's Supertramp.... Alexander Supertramp
someone should make an edit with Tylor from ned's declassified, he fits the archetype
Sucks that he didnt make it. At least he tried to live life on his own terms.
I was his age when this movie came out. I wish I had gone out like he did, instead of ending up here.
>>216990752>Sucks that he didnt make it.He 'made it' like 10 days, right?he wasn't even surviving, this dumb nigger
I still think he was a complete idiot.Convince me otherwise.
>>216990752>>216991016Surely theres a nearby national park or something you can get lost and die like a retard in

he literally went "paleo" and fucking died

My friend group was obsessed with this fucking movie as teenagers, I was the only one who thought this guy was spoiled and retarded. It might have something to do with me growing up on a farm while my friends grew up in the city
Everyone's just ignoring the two years he spent completely free traveling around meeting people

>>216991507Did you even watch the movie?
he could have just quit wageslavery and work idk making marmalade, boom society rejected.>>216991374>meeting peopleso he didnt really hate society, it was just the obligations stuff. what a baby.i used to know a guy that then one day randomly appeared on tv as missing. he went on a trip alone (a schizo) to a rainy island, went out for a whole month. he survived eating i cant remember what, like wild succulents. but he was once in the military, he was prepared, that hippie in OP only has bong preparation skills nothing else. nothing of worth was lost really.
>>216991016>ending up herestupid to blame 4chan, I was on here when I was 13 since then I partied in highschool, got a gf, held several jobs, got my license, travelled the country, had a baby with my longtime woman and got the best job of my life, all of that and here I am 17 years later still shitposting, and I go outdoors plenty like Mccandless but I generally like to be in my bed by the end of the night sleeping outdoors is a nightmare for someone like me who has issues getting and staying asleep

>>216991342Nope. The “poison seeds” thing was manufactured for the movie

I had to read the book in middle school. The story was stupid and gay like he was.
>>216991894Maybe I'll buy an RV and just drive around for some time
>>216991909This. It was to give him an out. He starved to death 100 yards from a river full of salmon.

>>216992139He also could have walked out. There was actually a way to get across the river a bit further south. Unfortunately he didn't have a map.
>>216991536He's saying you can travel and meet people in your college years, even take a gap year whatever without burning your social, losing your inheritance and dying a painful death alone like a hobo in the woods.
>>216991267went "innawoods" and made virtually every wrong choice. he wasn't even that far from civilization. he tried to swim across an ice cold river but turned around half way for zero reason. he could have just followed along the river and found a bridge but he never bothered. he actually managed to kill an animal despite all odds but had zero clue on how to preserve any of it. eventually took a gamble on some of the most obviously not safe to eat berries and that fucked him. after the river incident, he was probably too cold, tired, and hungry to actually get himself out of any of this hence why the berries became his last resort. all he had to do was just commit to crossing it when he did or better yet, survey the fucking area he was in. great example of mild retardation being a death sentence without society holding you up. when I first heard about this I thought he was in the tundras of siberia or smth but no, it was a very accessible national park
>>216992275He intentionally got rid of his money to throw himself out of the comfort zone. Rich college kids on gap years are merely larping
>>216992158Thanks for the warning. I've wanted an RV my whole life but didn't realize the industry was like this.

>>216992652He just wasnt scared to risk living life his own way. I can see why this would make most people seethe.
Let's pretend his passion was Nascar driving...Christopher McCandless sets off, from California in an old car he rebuilt himself (he replaced the fenders and painted it), on a trip to the Daytona 500. He only gets across the state line when he runs out of fuel because he forgot to fill it up. Instead of simply walking to the nearest gas station or flagging down help he decides to push his car over an embankment and set it on fire. He then proceeds to walk on foot to the nearest car lot (which happens to be in Mexico for some reason, mostly because he burned up his map in the car and he's been taking backroads.) He finds an old bicycle in a garbage dump and uses that.He finally gets to the car lot and buys a fixer-upper for $50. Before leaving the car lot he has to change a tire, which he replaces with the solid rubber donut. He buys fuel and heads off to the Daytona 500 again. Only he's heading deeper into Mexico and eventually ends up broken down in front of, "Autodromo Internacional de la Jolla" due to no water in the radiator. The engine block has seized up. Luckily, there's a race about to start. Christopher...er "Alexander Superspeeder", who changed his name, pays the $125 entry fee for the race.Unfortunately, Alexander Superspeeder doesn't have a race car. He does however have an old bicycle still. He uses the bicycle to race. He makes it only 3 laps before he is too tired to steer straight and veers off into a race car and is killed. Some Jew picks up his story and writes a book about his life and how he followed his dreams. Another Jew makes a movie about it. Armchair racers around the world adore him.The End.
>>216992577he killed innocent animals! he derves everything he fuckng got
>>216992881anon he thought that getting away from civilization would awaken solo survival superpowers locked within every human being because he couldn’t comprehend any other way humanity could’ve existed before modern civilization. if you could show him he died a mile from a road he’d take that as the reason his solo-survival powers didn’t activate.
>>216991995he died due to malnutrition and maybe because bird and rabbit meat have the same diseases as raw chicken
>>216991267Communism. Communism killed him.
>>216992251He wouldn’t have known how to read it anyway
>>216992881Sounded pretty scared when the food ran out. Guess he suddenly realized that, unlike cosplaying dharma bums and raiding dumpsters, running into wilderness without a plan can be dangerous.

>>216993223His death was more meaningful than his life, that's the thing. Not only it's the sole reason anyone knows about him it's also a pretty effective cautionary tale.
>>216993339His death was only meaningful because of the way he lived his life
>>216993505Considering he was starving to death for a very small part of his life, and spent the rest existing because of support from his parents and the kindness of strangers, which he never once truly recognized, not really no.

>Booo hooo, I have rich parents, hot girlfriends, and a sexy sister, im going insannne im gonna kill myself and kill other people!!!!They should have explored Japan or korea instead
>His car was in poor condition and suffered numerous breakdowns as he made his way out of the eastern United States. He also carried no car insurance on the vehicle and was driving with expired license plates.>Traveling northwest, McCandless then hitchhiked into the Sierra Nevada mountains, where he broke into a closed cabin to steal food, supplies, and money>He was described as very suspicious of people around him, unkempt, and smelling due to lack of hygiene.>On June 9, 1992, McCandless illegally stalked and shot a moose. However, the meat spoiled within days after he failed in his efforts to preserve it. McCandless would experience profound regret as a result of this experience, expressing in a journal entry "I now wish I had never shot the moose. One of the greatest tragedies of my life.">It had been speculated that McCandless was responsible for vandalizing several cabins in the area that were stocked with food, survival equipment, and emergency suppliesHere's that free spirit I was telling you about
>>216993946There's plenty of runaways, hobos and junkies around, yes. What's your point? Your daddy has to be super rich for it to "count"? Or you have to be straight edge?
>He just wasnt scared to risk living life his own way
>There is no indication of McCandless having any romantic partners throughout his life, and he is believed to have remained celibate. That's why /tv/ has a hardon for the guy btw.
>>216994068Neither was his wife, HEH HEH*winks*
>>216994037The point is it's not comparable to his experience. He wasn't poor or hooked on drugs, and he didn't want to stop living like he did.
>>216994222>it's not comparableIt's comparable in every way besides drugs. And you'll have to explain how exactly "not being on drugs" made his experience any more significant in this context.
>I don't need money!>steals food AND MONEY from working peopleSome hero you niggers have
>>216994222>dying like a retard only matters if you are/were rich
>>216994480It's not, hobos generally don't choose to live like that. Runaways usually run from bad family situations. McCandless could have just gone to college to get away from his parents. Druggies end up living like that after having sold and spent everything they have on drugs, until they don't have any other choice. He could choose to leave at any time and kept going anyway.
>>216994667It's the sacrifice that matters. If you have nothing to sacrifice it's just sad, not inspiring.
>>216994222>hooked on drugsThat's the funniest thing about that guy. He wasn't even the cool kerouacian bum he tried to cosplay. He didn't drink, do drugs, bang chicks or sing the blues. He was just a weird dork.
>>216994708>generally>usuallyThere's plenty of reasons people decide to live like that, don't pretend you know which one is more "usual". And yes, becoming a junkie is also a choice.>Runaways usually run from bad family situations.Just like McCandyass run away from his overbearing father.>He could choose to leave at any time and kept going anyway. He tried to leave tho. He literally shat his panties when he realized it's not happy go lucky hitchiking adventure anymore. But he was an idiot, so it didn't pan out.
