>Turns one guy invisible Was it really THAT powerful of a weapon? Having one invisible lad seems so insignificant when you're fighting a war of like say 20.000 soliders on each sideSure one invisible guy might take out like some forty odd tangos before he gasses out IF he doesn't get randomly struck by something mid combat. Does he pass the ring to the next dude then? I guess you could assinate some commanders more easily, but shit dude you have to get to them first, and the next guy in the chain of command will just take over
>>216992224The ring amps up your nature skills to extremes and gives you the power to control people
>>216992224why didn't they build like a giant interconnected catapult and then put the ring on it to make it invisible?what if everyone in the army held hands while one guy wore the ring? imagine how strong theyd be if everyone was invisible and holding hands
Being invisible it's just a side effect. The One Ring main power is to control people and the other 19 rings.
>>216992417holding hands is kinda gay :/ so that wont work
>>216992224You can do way more than that with it. Gandalf warns him not to try to figure out how. (Doesn't want another dark lord)
>>216992316Frodo actually uses this power on Gollum right at the end It's sort of like Words of Power/a curse >If you touch me again, you shall be cast into the fire!Which is supposed to be ambiguous (Was it the ring? Was it Smeagol finally gaining control to kill himself? Was it purely an accident?) but in the film Frodo just pushes him in lol.
>>216992443Boromir: It is a gift. A gift to the foes of Mordor. Why not use this ring? Long has my father, the Steward of Gondor, kept the forces of Mordor at bay. By the blood of our people are your lands kept safe. Give Gondor the weapon of the enemy. Let us use it against him.
>>216992580They can form a train by sticking their wieners into each other's butts. no hand holding necessary.
What does it say about humanity that OPs ancient bait thread is still better at generating conversation than effort and being genuine?
Why did destroying the ring destroy Sauron? Was this a plot hole of convenience?
>>216993003That sounds like an oscar winning performance
>>216992224don't forget it made him EXTRA visible to the Sauron's elite special force ringwraiths, the movie was riddled with plot holes like this
Tolkien in his letters said that if Frodo managed to keep the Ring after claiming it for himself, the Nazgul wouldn't being able to harm him, to directly oppose him or take the Ring, only trying to stale and distract Frodo until Sauron himself arrived.
>>216993046It didn't, Sauron is an immmortal angel like being. The thing is the Ring destroyed Sauron is reduced to a permanent impotence. He poured most of native essence in the Ring, without it, he is just a harmless shade.
>But the real question is how was the ring taxed? Surely it was a capital asset, but how to determine its cost basis? You have the gold used for its construction but how do you account for the labor (physical and magical) used for its production? Is the ring depreciable? Arguably no since its value remains constant regardless of use, but one could imagine a dwarf taking the contrary position.
>>216992224It has other powers but only Sauron can use them because he made the ring. It's like how wizards can kind of use other wizards wands in Harry Potter but they only work correctly for their wizard
>>216992224What does that say in black speech? Something about KFC?
>>216993329Ah, yes, the hand scanner gunhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57Uy9jPxxwI
>>216993046He had to super charge it with his own essence for it to be powerful enough to control the other rings, once it was destroyed he didnt have enough mojo to materialize ever again
>>216992224The hard fact that /tv/ won't swallow is that the movies made no attempt to explain what the ring really does and why it and Sauron himself is so threatening
>>216993164>be immortal angel like being>make yourself a huge weakness so the plot can happen>reach out to grab a guy with the weakness being completely vulnerablewas he stupid
>>216992224The ring can only turn one person invisible but the ring also turns their clothes invisible so what would happen if Frodo put on the ring while wearing a two-person Halloween costume with Sam?
>>216994729The person wearing the ring become very hard to see almost as if it was really a one person costume rather than a 2 person
Why do redditor types seethe so much at metaphysics being a key part of a story and try so hard to deconstruct/disprove it ?
>>216993698it was a trade off for the control it would yield, and he would have gotten away with it if it wasn’t for those pesky hobbits
>>216993124And in early version Frodo orders the Witch-king to jump into Mount Doom and he does.
>>216992224The true mystery is when does the lord of the rings appear?
>>216993698Tolkien repeatedly stated that Sauron never imagined they would try to destroy the ring because he's so focused on control and power he assumes anyone other than him would use the ring exactly like he would. He knew they had a ring but he thought they would use it against him. When he realizes they were trying to throw it in the fire all along and that they're about to do it he completely loses his shit
