Has fanfiction and tropification ruined storytelling in film and literature? Are these things the antichrist that must be shamed at all costs? What happens when the original authors start writing fanfiction-tier productions for their established media and when fan works surpass the quality of the original?
I wont watch that so what are her arguments

>>216993183autists just like easily consumed slop and put in the effort to add shit for every line in the movie for things they like
>>216993061I've seen a couple of her videos and this woman unironically seems like a crypto fascist to me.
>>216993061No, but paying attention to and treating them seriously has had negative consequences.
>>216993096>writers learn to self-indulge and prioritize their own comfort>obsession with trying to "clean up" the original work >self-inserting and other weird self representation that does not belong there>smut and porn absolutely fucking everywhere >shit qualityI can recall a few from this one. There were more.
>woman is speaking
>>216993061All of this woman's videos are 15 seconds of content spread out to 60+ minutes, and that content pretty much boils down to "please read my YA novel " and "my dad was the best home schooler ever, every single form of education that wasn't my dad's homeschooling fucking sucks and is worthless and you are all retarded because my dad didn't personally teach you".
90% of fanfic is just romance shit and its shippers taking one moment and then going full schizo with it creating some headcanon
>>216993348>paying attention to and treating them seriously has had negative consequencesI agree, every Terminator movie after 2 and every Star Wars movie after 3 was utterly unwelcoming. Pacific Rim 2 also never happened.
>>216993273no, that would be /a/sshole full of smelly DBS third worlders flooding each thread
>>216993403It's actually sad how many times this happens, especially when a romance subplot is actually important to the overall story at some point. Sometimes they just change things into some WTF territory out of sheer spite.
>>216993183But tropes are tools, TV Tropes told me. Clearly it's just people using these tools in the wrong way.
>>216993264Is it just me or does this happen more often with animation?
There's nothing inherently wrong with tropes. Tropes become tropes for a reason and the idea that subverting them makes you a better writer or makes for a better story is retarded. Bad writing is bad, good writing is good. But reading and writing is dying. Literacy rates are crash and burning in the US. Adults barely read, kids don't read if they even can. If fanfiction is a viable gateway into reading and writing then even if it is a poorly written smut filled hellscape it's better than nothing at all.
Most fanfic is just taking the place of romance novels of old. Those novels your mom used to read cause you're dad didn't believe in romance or was too tired to give a shit after work. It's just painted over with established characters and world building making it quicker and easier to read and write. The quality is pretty on par as well.
>>216993273Either /tv/, /v/, or /co/.
>>216994151Fanfic is romance novels except written by and for autistic homosexual virgins instead of horny spinsters.
No, storytelling has been ruined by morons who can't accept that they aren't a misunderstood artistic savant insisting on pumping out garbage while publishers eagerly push it and the dumbest people in the world buy it up en masse. Bad writers write bad works, tropes or no.
>>216994151>Those novels your mom used to read cause you're dad didn't believe in romance or was too tired to give a shit after work.Sorry, I can't relate to this.
>>216994277Fanfic writers aren't gay, they are just women self-inserting as twinks.
>>216994816I'm the only sane man clearly.
>>216993061>What happens when the original authors start writing fanfiction-tier productions for their established mediaRebuild of Evangelion
>>216993061>Has fanfiction and tropification ruined storytelling in film and literature? No, this woman is just being a pickme for views
>>216993061I hate this bitch would rough sex tho
>>216993183Tropes are more descriptive than prescriptive, the problem is when you treat them as the inverse.
When I was in middle school I wrote a ~100 page fanfic about Starfire from Teen Titans raping my self-insert OC
>>216993061Fanfiction has always existed tho. What's gone to shit are publishers. They're putting smut slop on the shelves that is barely above fanfiction quality. They've realised selling porn to women is more profitable. That sort of stuff has always been available for free online (some communities have authors being paid via commissions).

>>216993368>video essay>it’s a fucking womanYeah no
>>216993910This anon makes good points.
>>216993387>*pauses the video to loudly slurp her coffee into the mic*
>>216993360those are elements enforced by committees and assorted suits to maximise target audience
>>216998892maybe initially. but writers are weak-willed, so they change their own opinions to become what the committee suits expect them to be. then they start not just writing it without needing to be told, but going out of their way to push it on others or defending it when they don't gain anything for doing so (or even lose from doing so).there are a lot of groups of people out there who don't get nearly as much hate as they deserve, and writers are definitely among those.
>>216999065producers, Netflix etc. specifically pick rookie writers that fold easily to their demands, else it's back to the dumpster for them. Blaming the writers may be technically correct but they're not the root cause
>>216993061Since it's a video by a woman I assume she doesn't mention the most important factor that is destroying contemporary writing: That it's catering to women and much more frequently also written by other women. Women can't write and they only consume the most tasteless trash imaginable. No surprise all 3 books in the thumbnail are written by women and have mostly female audiences.Women are the primary consumers/buyers of written media in particular nowadays. You won't find a single bookstore that doesn't cater to women nowadays.
>>216999357Duh
No
HARLEQUIN/MILLS & BOONThat's your problem. You go into a bookshop and pick up a book at random, the chance of getting something that's basically just smut that's barely even smut is overwhelming. If it's not some airport chick lit to get a tingle in an ancient hole, it's some celebrity or TV tie-in book, or tabloid-tier TRUE CRIME garbage. When you can't reliably get "real" literature in a bookshop, of course writers aren't going to be doing anything of worth.
>>216996732>What's gone to shit are publishers.Every American publisher has decided to copy the light novel industry in Japan; they just grab dogshit from wattpad and other e-novel sites based on what's popular on tiktok, then hock it to retarded women.Modern women's literature is basically just the western equivalent of those low-effort Japanese webnovels with extremely long titles so people can tell what they're about without actually having to read them.
