In s5 he did not bother to hunt down max in real life even after knowing her subconscious was in his mind. At any point he could have finished her off and should have because she IS a threat to him. One issue I've not seen anyone mention is that him coming out still paints him weak minded and also makes him look like he doesn't trust his friends and family. Instead of being shown the internal struggle, being shown the visions of being alone vecna was using on him, and him being mentally strong enough to fight back and say, "no, fuck you, they're my friends and they're not going to leave me. My mom loves me regardless of if I dance in fairy circles!!"
