Excuse the blunt title. I don't wish death or harm upon anyone, and I'm not trying to predict anything, but there are just some actors/actresses you're shocked are still alive and/or still active. They just seem to go on forever. I certainly hope the Shat lives forever because he's a one-man kino factory.Just watched this unsold Nero Wolfe pilot, (pre-Boomer Columbo and most literal 'armchair detective' in the genre). Shatner plays Archie Goodwin, (his Dr. Watson), who does all the legwork. Which makes for an interesting narrative dynamic since he at some point has to instruct Archie on what to do to further the investigation. Obviously young Shat is suited to the role and any physical action that might have been required.>Actually a kinda lame plot for this episode with the hearing aid bullshit, but made me wonder if it otherwise didn't get picked up or air because of the detailed talking about Nazi rocket scientists working for the US might have been triggering at the time due to the Missile Race, Sputnik, and subsequent Space Race. Pretty sure the US government wanted to keep Project Paperclip on the downlow at the time, and downplay shit like von Braun's Nazi ties and portray him more as a victim of the Nazis forced to build weapons, etc.>Interesting little piece of television and Shat career history and worth your time at any rate:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_AoebAAig4

>>217000562Bullshit. I remember when he died in the 90s. Is this some Mandalorean effect bs?
>>217004792How did he ever live down the impossibly hammy actor jokes? standards have fallen
Dominic Chianese has outlived a good chunk of the Sopranos cast at this point.
>>217004885People got over it and realised Shatner was actually just a cool dude, who had fun with his life.
>>217004885he just kept grinding. he has a fucking ridiculous number of tv episodes under his belt
age is so cruel bros
>>217006619He still looks better than the rest of the cast.
>>217000562It's bizarre how much I've been seeing Nero Wolfe pop up lately, ever since Wake Up Dead Man came out. Thanks for posting this pilot, OP.
>>217006664He does but he was also the biggest chad of the cast, so him losing his looks is sadder.
>>217004885Why don't you just get a life?
>>217004891I was going to rag on you because I was sure he died a while ago...
>>217000562>But how did you know Lowenberg's hearing aide was rigged like that? How did you find out?>Wolfe: Ohh, these are merely details. It is late, and I have a cold. Ladies and gentlemen, you may go home now.No wonder it didn't get picked up, they skipped right past that part of the explanation, on which the entire accusation rests.
Not an actor, but I feel like it's close enough. Gene Shalit, Movie Critic and Today Show correspondent. He's a young 99 years old.
>>217001676So do I. Zoomies are incredibly jealous. They'll never be able to afford it LOL
>>217007233Shalit's one of those names you always hear but never really see anymore. I get that he's 99 and retired, but was he ever IN anything? Was he just overshadowed by Siskel & Ebert when it came to televised film critique?
>>217006666Funny you say that Satanically quadruple-cursed anon. I actually found that looking up unfortunately and unsurprisingly dead, but unforgettable character actor Maury Chaykin, and it turns out he portrayed the character in his own series. I loved this fucking guy. He pops up in the weirdest places and was always entertaining. Just look how much spin he's putting on this pitch:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZyCnTUPY6Jk
>>217006746Funniest shit ever. I used to think he missed his calling by not doing comedy after seeing him do it the first time, but he actually wound up doing quite a bit. Underappreciated comic timing and delivery, even when it wasn't Trek related he was surprisingly hilarious. And there I go saying 'was' assuming he's not still going. That's the kind of thing I'm referring to in the OP, where there's a mismatch between what you assume and the reality of them still being around. Weird.
>>217008220He was on the Today show back when that was a big deal so he was doing shorter bits but he'd be on every day.
>>217002222Nice body on this bitch
John Astin is still alive and has outlived the rest of the '60s Addams Family cast, including Wednesday and Pugsley
Eva Marie Saint made her film debut 71 years ago in On The Waterfront and is still alive, though seems to have retired (One of her last roles was in the Legend of Korra as an elderly Katara)
>>217007079Not the only issue with it. I'd say what he does explain is worse, especially the replica bullshit.Haven't felt so cheated since Gevanni suddenly acquired the hitherto unannounced ability to convincingly duplicate handwritten books overnight.
Ray Anthony, though mostly known for his music, also dabbled in acting. He was born in 1922, served in WW2 and is the last surviving member of the Glenn Miller Orchestra (The orchestra disbanded in '42 and never reunited after Miller's disappearance in 1944)
Barbara Eden AKA Jeannie from the sixties show I Dream of Jeannie is still alive. She is 94 now but the picture is from 3 years ago.
>>217002144Amiga Video Toaster Magic
>>217000562Michael Caine is 92 now, released his last movie 2 years ago and announced his retirement (again, but I think this time for good). But I don't think I would chalk that up as surprising, he has been a star for over 60 years and was ever present for the last 30 or so.
>>217000562Bill is gonna bury us all.
>>217009535He will live until everyone has forgotten about his TekWar franchise.
>>217000562Janette Scott
>>217003612He was in his 50s for that scene with 16 year old Drew Barrymore in Poison Ivyit was a different time
Buzz Aldrin.
>>217009593why is she giving him a blowjob?
Lee Grant (Born mid-1920s) had a major career interruption in the fifties due to being blacklisted by HUAC. However, she had the last laugh, later winning an Oscar for her work and becoming a director. She is anywhere between 98 and 100 (True year of birth unknown)
Eva Marie Saint is 101 years old
>>217009593Worst actor ever. He was in that shitty 60's film, what was it called? Apollo something?Very badly written, unconvincing plot, poor performances. 2/10
>>217000562
Ann Blyth who was in the great flick: Brute Force (1947) is still alive. Nancy Olson who was in the even greater flick: Sunset Blvd. (1950) is also still living.
the gorgeous kim novak is still around
>>217010122>>217009814And Tippi Hedren too. That's three classic Hitchcock lead actresses. And Shirley MacLaine too. But, most people say Trouble with Harry is a lesser Hitchcock, not a classic one.
>>217010288>Shirley MacLaineshe will die when snood finally gets an actual role in a film instead of being an influencer
>>217000562I quite enjoyed the later series.Separating the Sherlock Holmes style detective into two men, one a physical powerhouse and the other a mental one is a great idea and I wish it had been done more.
>>217010122>Wanna know how I got those scars?
