Is it the best film ever?
>>217005151It is in the conversation at least. It is also funny that Birth of a Nation is objectively a contender from a filmmaking perspective. Too bad politics ruin everything.
>>217005151No.
It's up there for sure. Audiences nowadays would consider it boring but it's still spectacular to watch. It's even better on a big screen. Only flaw is there's too many needle drops of Zarathustra afaik.
>>217005261I've never heard of this, but it looks kino.
>>217005151Name?
>>217005287Watch the Director's Cut.
>>217005297Poor Little White Boy 4
>>217005151Well, it's not terrible, but it's also a Kubrick movie, so you have to remember Stanley just shoots the parts of the story he likes, and then kinda stops there and makes up the rest to stich those parts together the best he can and get it out.Kubrick is a god of film, sure, but he's not flawless.
>>217005151visually, yes. in general, it's in the top 50 or so.
>>217005151scifi. I'll always watch kurosawa over kubrick
>>217005329Well said. I do think 2001 is probably the iconic Kubrick as far as the mainstream is concerned. But for me, it's Barry Lyndon. Honorable mention to EWS.
>>217005151White Chicks is better
>>217005300I am so pissed he burned all the extra footage and sets so it couldn't be reworked by studio hacks into some other bullshit. I mean yes that was smart bc they absolutely would have, but fml mien negro shot like 1800 miles of footage, and cuts this one film out of it and that's all the world gets forevermore, when there was sooo much mooore. Goddammit Stanley.
>>217005151Yes.
>>217005391Same. Lyndon was the one I never watched growing up bc a long ass period romance looked boring as shit drying on pavement. But as usual, the things you grow into carry the most weight. It is no doubt his absolute masterwork.
>>217005151I've never seen this particular film, would one recommend it?
>>217005486My man. Thoughts on The Shining?
>>217005390>um I prefer the sci fi films of Kurosawa thank you very muchOk good for you, do you want a cookie bc you know the name of one of one of the most famous directors in the most popular entertainment medium in the world? Holy fuck surely you have superior taste in spectating. Shit save some of that auto-fellatio for the rest of us god damn.
>>217005506Sort of. I loved it when I was a kid, then I hated it as an adult, then I was indifferent & thought of it as a production in & of its time (& Stanleys temperment back then). Then they fucking indulged King and remade it for some inexplicable failure of reason and it sucked so bad it made me love SK's original and its difficulties all over again. So, too many thoughts on that one.
>>217005544lolslice em and dice em
>>217005151It will never beat Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.
>>217005544Kek
>>217005750Quentin big jealous. Not a contender for any "greatest" of anything.
>>217005151That giant baby shit ruined the movie for me.
>>217005151It's not bad but it is massively overrated and many films since have done it's themes better or have better special affects. It was probably revolutionary at the time but we aren't in that time anymore so it's hard to give it an objective rating, I was sorely disappointed when viewing it after reading for years what a masterpiece it was, Moon was a more compelling film for me.Also Barry Lyndon clears by a mile.
>>217005151Why is there so many 2001 threads today?Oh and to answer your question, absolute yes!
