The homestead is just left abandoned. Why? In the EU, Luke returns a bit after A New Hope to give his aunt and uncle proper funeral and gave it to some alien and later Biggs' Darklighter family forced him out and took it over. So why would it be abandoned over 30 years later?
There's unironically no reason to think about it like they're coherent movies that have anything to do with each other or the rest of star wars.

Tombstones were re-erected in the wake of their execution.>Afterwards, he allowed the alien Throgg to take possession of the farm after he left Tatooine.[10] This angered Huff Darklighter, the father of Luke's childhood friend Biggs, who wanted the property for himself. He convinced the Anchorhead Municipal Council to pass an anti-alien landowner tax. Unable to pay it, Throgg sold the farm to Jula Darklighter, Huff's brother.
