Music is dead. Television is dead. Now, Music Television is dead. What is even left in this world?

>>217009402It has been dead since the early 2000s.
>>217009221I thought they died like 5 years ago. They've been irrelevant since like 2007.
>>217009528Zombie MTV.
>>217009537When you said 5 years ago I thought 2017 which sounded about right for when I would have thought MTV had died but 5 years ago is actually 2021 tomorrow. Damn, son.
>>217009221Died long ago when they stopped showing music videos and started showing nothing but "reality" television. Then again its hard to see it continuing when the internet made it irrelevant. You could simply pull up whatever music video you wanted once Youtube got going
Least culturaly relevant in 2025 the simpsons or mtv
>mtv bad they only show reality slopBro they invented slop with mtv real world
>>217009247Scrolling reels full of AI slop endlessly while you have Netflix slop playing on your second screen

>radio outlived MTV
>>217009221VIDEO KILLED THE RADIOSTARVIDEO KILLED THE RADIOSTAR
MTV should have made a youtube channel early on. Using their connections it could have been a huge channel that artists would want to be featured on.G4 and others could have done the same. They all thought they could direct traffic to their own site instead.
>Rage still going strong since 1987Proof that staying alternative and having a huge percentage of the channel being an outlet for up and coming alternative musicians and bands is still the best way forward.
>>217010282huh… well what’dya know
>>217009528It's actually had another boom period, absolutely baffling expectations
>>217009247>Music is deadthe only people that say shit like this are normies that listen to nothing but boring boomer classics while lamenting that modern music is le bad because their only exposure to it is what plays on the radioThere's a lot of good music out there.
>>217009652it died when they started playing rap videos instead of rock videos.
>>217010877We're absolutely in the period for the worst mainstream music since honestly the 1930s, and frankly, nothing mainstream produced probably for the past 20 years will be remembered beyond 2040 and the past 10 years in particular has been extremely bad. Taylor Swift is the biggest artist of the modern age and literally 80% of Western people couldn't name a single song of hers, compare that to the big 80s, 70s, 60s artists. Every Westerner knows a bunch of Michael Jackson or George Michael or Frank Sinatra or the Beatles or Bee Gees or Jefferson Airplane, Bob Dylan etc and the list goes on for hundreds of artists, yet the mainstream artists today have literally no impact outside of their teen base. While great music is still being produced, hell I would say King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard is the single best band since the 1970s, yet they aren't that popular beyond the dedicated psychedelic surfer rock fanbase because Mainstream music is more algo dominated than ever and normies never hear shit that their Algos don't already feed them. So a Taylor Swift fan will only ever hear Taylor Swift and garbage like Lana Del Ray and Kelly Clarkson and whatever. If this was 1995, King Gizzard would literally be Pink Floyd levels popular because Normies would have heard their shit alongside the big mainstream pop artists, but they are not, because Algo's hid their shit to the point they literally told Spotify to go fuck themselves and left it.
>>217010282>>radio outlived MTVVery first song ever played on MTV: "Video Killed the Radio Star" https://youtu.be/PJtiPRDIqtI?t=5The very last song ever played: "Radio killed the Video Star" Though to be honest... music videos aren't dead. They all transitioned over to Youtube, TikTok and other social media sites.
>>217010898Youth culture died when "alternative" in general just became black worshipping idpol. If Black people do it, it's "cool" and alternative by nature. That has been the general youth outlook since 2005. Wiggers not only won the culture war they basically genocided every other counter-culture from relevance. The worst part is that since the 1980s Black culture degenerated into the most generic, shittiest state it's ever fucking been. If Black culture stayed to the same level it was from the 1940s-70s, we would still have great music, but it didn't, they dropped everything that wasn't Hip Hop/fake pop RnB and the rest is history.

>>217009528Jersey Shore was popular in the 2010s.
>>217009221>Raw Time
>>217009247>Television is deadWho's still watchin television these dayz? All the people I know only watch streaming platformsTv is for old folks who still watch the news on there and read physical news papers
>>217011176>Jersey Shore was popular in the 2010s.MTV really died in the mid 2000's when they just stopped playing music videos altogether and replaced everything with reality TV shows. MTV went from being "Music TeleVision" to "Mediocre TeleVision".

>>217010846There was some very brief buzz last year when The Rock returned and turned heel, but other than that no.>but muh biggest revenue everSaudi blood money doesn't count

>>217011215What exactly is on streaming? It’s piles of garbage. HBO was making the best shows. Overall, television used to be free. >muh fallout>too many Star Wars >animeNo thanks
>>217009221>After 44 yearsMTV has ALREADY been dead for more than 20 fucking years at this point.

>>217011073> period for the worst mainstream music But here’s the thing dumbass: the mainstream is meaningless. It’s so easy to find new niche music today, you have to be some kind of retard to listen to a radio show at all. > the mainstream artists today have literally no impact outside of their teen base. The same reason people have no tentpole watercooler TV shows or movies anymore. It’s a fractured media ecosystem. There’s no monoculture anymore. I don’t know why you’re crying about it, your main argument for old artist being “better” is just that more people knew them - because of the fucking monoculture. YOU SAY THIS WHILE COMPLAINING ABOUT “ALGOS” dictating what the kids are listening to. Are you hearing yourself you fucking retard?
>>217011335This video is still lit as fuck. In 2025, the low polygon models are back in style. Also, the CG segments were animated by the founders of mainframe Entertainment, who would later go on to make ReBoot, Beast Wars, Shadow Raiders, Action Man, Spider-Man: The New Animated Series (for MTV) and shit like that.
>>217011427<And so it was our beloved corporate godsClaimed they created rock videoAllowing it to sink as low in one yearAs commercial TV has in 25"It's the new frontier, " they sayIt's wide open, anything can happenBut you've got a lot of nerve to call yourself a pioneerWhen you're too god-damn conservative to take real chancesTin-earedGraph-paper brained accountants instead of music fansCall all the shots at giant record companies nowThe lowest common denominator rulesForget honesty, forget creativityThe dumbest buy the mostest, that's the name of the gameBut sales are slumping and no one will say whyCould it be they put out one too many lousy records?!?1984 as true now as it was written.
>>217009221That's what they get for not giving Undergrads a season 2.
>>217009528This
MTV has literally been dead ever since Jackass and Clone High were canceled. After Viva la Bam was canceled at the very latest.Even on the rare occasion they produced anything even REMOTELY of value after that, like Wonder Showzen, that was restricted to airing MTV2, i.e. a channel nobody had and nobody watched, and the only reason anybody even knew about the show or was able to watch it was thanks to it occurring in the era of YouTube and Internet Piracy.MTV has now literally been shit for a longer portion of its lifespan than it was any good.
>>217011491damn that takes me back.
>>217009221At least best movie is shilled right there.
>>217011491>That's what they get for not giving Undergrads a season 2.That's a good point.

>When did MTV die? When anons turned age 14. 16 for the dumb ones. Women 20. No exceptions.
>>217009652Kind of like how in an act of desperation, Cartoon Network brought back old school Toonami about 10-15 years too late, when there were already fan groups who had been doing it online for years, even with period-appropriate commercials and whatnot.

>>217009664I stopped paying attention when Wildboyz ended, which I think was probably around 20 years ago.
>>217009221Good riddance. Having one single gatekeeper to pop/rap/metal/alternative music and culture was a shit situation. Now there are no gatekeepers, you can get any music video off of Youtube instead of hoping MTV might play one you want, and there's a thousand music streaming services now. They did it themselves. They wanted their primary TV channel to be all about retarded shows that have fuck nothing to do with music videos, so they reap what they deserve.
>>217009734This was I think when the general degeneracy started to really get a foothold.
>>217009221Delayed comeuppance for the unforgivable sin of canceling Headbanger's Ball at the height of it's popularity.
>>217009221I stopped watching it in 2007 or 08 but still sucks to see it just die like that.
