they said it's coming last year, so expect 6-12 months of concept stuff to arrive at a script, then 1-2 years to cast it/film it/do the effects and release it

They clearly state that they have no real idea how long he'll stay that way, at no point does the movie imply Shin is dead. Especially when you take in to account the points that >>217010035 made, a sequel with THAT Shin is still possible if not his off-growths.

I'd say that if they were to do it, without a new kaiju, they would get the greenlight for the one or many of the nuts ideas they had for his forms. But honestly I think this is one of those movies where we all enjoy the idea of a sequel but actually getting one would be disappointing no matter what.
