at least we had My Daughter is a Zombie (2025)
>>
We're living in the wreckage of the #metoo/DEI hire era. All media across the board is in the most pitiful state its ever been.
>>
Every new movie I've watched this year I've enjoyed.

Thing is, I've only watched 3 and 2 weren't even theatrical.
>>
>>217014427
This. We're almost a decade into a world of all female writer's rooms and female showrunners specifically chosen for male oriented properties. Retards wanted more women involved in the creative process, and what do you know, everything is now quantifiably worse and less profitable.
>>
>>217014300
So? There's decades worth of timeless great movies you've never seen.
>>
>>217014300
2021 was worse (because of Covid) but 2025 is close second
>>
>>217014300
not really. you probably only watch capeshit.
>>
Maybe you should try working out and they would make better stuff.
>>
>>217014427
It's gonna be years before it turns around, too. IF it turns around ...
>>
The thing that depresses me about modern cinema is the feeling I get when I play the time game in my head. The time game is realising just how stagnant shit has become by comparing decades. If you watched an 18-year-old film in 2003 you'd be watching a film 1985 - it was like a window into another fucking world in terms of writing, cinematography, directing, themes, actors, culture, aesthetics, the literal physical composition of the humans you were seeing even. You know what's an 18-year-old film now? Iron Man. We are stuck.

This. Take the Turner Classic Movies pill. You WILL NOT regret it. Everyone knows that movies from the 80s and 90s are better than modern movies but not enough people realize that the actual peak of cinema was from 1930-1960
>>
Cinema has been dead since digital intermediate and then completely digital photography and presentation became mainstream.

If you didn't like cinema in 2025 then maybe you're not cut out for cinema? We got absolute bangers this year:
Better Man.
Smashing Machine.
One Battle After Another.
Sinners.
Wicked 2.
Avatar Fire and Ash.
If you didn't enjoy at least SOMETHING on this list maybe it's time to try therapy for your depression.

we all know this from childhood.
>group of boys playing pretend, having a blast
>girl shows up and wants to join
>nobody wants to be mean, so they let her
>all her ideas are lame and gay
>nobody wants to be mean, so they go with it
>entire thing loses any sense of fun, everyone quits
feminism is just girls pretending to be boys (badly) and destroying the whole system that boys set up in the first place.

The issue is all the propaganda. I’ve watched a lot of the movies in the usual “top ten” lists and they’re all just filled with garbage. All that woke is dead talk was extremely premature.
>>
>>217016701
He's a beautiful Frenchman irl but keep thinking movies are real life Anon, it's going really well for you so far!

>All that woke is dead talk was extremely premature.
movies being released today have been in development for years. woke effectively ended in 2024, we're still getting a ton of remake sequel garbage in '26 and studio consolidation will keep happening, but after that I think the pipeline might clear up for something new and interesting.

If you're watching exclusively tentpole Hollywood slop, maybe. I personally have watched multiple decent-to-great 2025 films in the theatre and I'm not even up on the festival/arthouse circuit

Maybe a Paramount or Lionsgate will make small moves away from woke. But the big players, Netflix especially, are literally in the process of buying up and locking away huge libraries of IP. They're trying to starve any competition to the woke creative vision.

the thing killing film at this point more than anything is old directors insistence on relying on celluloid as a crutch to give it "a look" instead of committing to advancing photography past current digital trends, and allowing digital to be associated with flat lighting and streaming. One Battle After Another, Bugonia, Sinners, and Hamnet were all filmed on film and they look like complete shit compared to anything shot on film a decade ago - blown out colors, bad exposures, all comes out in the wash with digital post processing to re-add "filmic cohesion" and it all gets fucking watched on streaming regardless (hurr digital). Miami Vice looks fucking awesome because Mann committed to the avant garde technology of the time and made it work for his vision. Steven Soderberg also committed to the digital look, even going so far as iphone gimmick, and his movies continue to look interesting, well shot and compelling, but the mainstream representatives of "Quality" are insistent on telling younger generations their movies aren't "real" if they aren't celluloid, which costs way too fucking much and doesn't allow you multiple takes.

Thoughts about Black Bag?
>>
>>217018303
>Miami Vice looks fucking awesome
no it fucking doesn't and i will die on this hill. the "shadows" are black pixelated voids and the colors are washed out to hell. i swear it's some weird brain virus among people who praise this dogshit digital remake slop.
>>
>>217018526
Sounds like it’s just a bit too stylized for your mundane tastes
>>
>>217018303
Allowing infinite takes encourages the use of sub-par actors and overt ocd "perfectionism" that sucks the soul out of anything.

Celluloid is still king and can be done extremely well if the filmmaker knows what they're doing. Once Upon A Time In Hollywood looked great.
>>
>>217017371
Yo is this real?
>>
>>217018734
That’s completely beside the point of what was being discussed but okay
>>
>>217014300
Drive My Car and Wailing still bops. It's why I never liked Hollywood much after the classical era or 80s vulgar auteurs, 70s indies
>>
>>217018871
are you pretending to be retarded? OUATIH is an example shot on celluloid in the digital age that came out looking great. your argument was citing recent celluloid films that looked like shit.
>>
>>217018986
That’s not what I was talking about, we were talking about Miami Vice you ‘tist
