Red dragon, the best story .Manhunter previously killed.omfg, this has to be the worst performance I've ever seen, this guy should have been blackballed forever
I blame the director. Brett Ratnor sucks.
>>217018670Frankly I thought both adaptations weren't good. Read the book instead, its much better than either movie.
>>217018748This.As books:Red Dragon > Silence of the Lambs > Hannibal > Hannibal RisingAs movies: Silence of the Lambs >>>> Hannibal > Manhunter > Red Dragon >>>>> Hannibal Rising
>>217018920Hannibal was not better than Manhunter.
>>217018670Norton is a good actor but they downplay Will’s torment so he seems a bit bland and Ratner’s decision to make him clean cut and bleach blond doesn’t help. Ratner in general does a shit job of copying Jonathan Demme. And it goes without saying they overuse Hopkins, who is bloated, visibly old, and hammy.
>>217018670The scene in ManHunter when Graham figures out the video tapes is fucking amazing and nothing in this version matches it You can argue Cox isn’t as good a Lector but he’s still good
The “Hey Hannibal, you’ve got a young lady visitor from the FBI and she’s called Clarice Starling from The Silence of the Lambs” final scene was fucking appalling
>>217019004It’s all go for Dr Lector! Most popular man in prison
>>217019002Cox is great, without the melodrama..Norton tho ,honly shit
>>217019004>>217019137They should have had a scene where Hannibal's cell mate throws a cup of jizz on Edward Norton and a guard says "oh yeah he does that to everybody"
Dream much, Will?
>>217019186i always thought he just was able to time his ejaculation perfectly and squirt really far, in retrospect the cup makes more sense.
>>217019230>Dream much, Will?Did you really feel depressed after you shot Mr. Garrett Jacob Hobbes to death? l think you probably did. But it wasn't the act that got to you. Didn't you feel so bad, because killing him felt so good? And why shouldn't it feel good? lt must feel good to God. He does it all the time. God's terrific! He dropped a church roof on 34 of his worshippers in Texas last Wednesday night, just as they were groveling through a hymn to his majesty. Don't you think that felt good?
Unpopular opinion but Juliane Moore is a better Starling. The sexual chemistry between her and Lector in Hannibal is insane
>>217019350That probably has more to do with Jodie Foster being a huge dyke, and not good at faking it.
>>217018975Manhunter is easily the worst adaption of any of the books. It's an ok movie but just butchers almost everything that made the book great. Hannibal at least has Hopkins still in peak Lecter form before he phoned it in for Red Dragon.
>>217018670ed norton might just be a terrible actor. i didn't think this in the past but in the present i can't think of an actually good performance.
What really would have saved Red Dragon is if an unfitting 80s synth rock ballad start playing half way into it.

>>217019448being a more faithful adaptation doesn't help Hannibal because the book also sucks
>>217019186“One and Done Miggs, we’re gonna have to change your nickname! Good lord!”
The murdered family owning Mrs Doubtfire, which was made several years after the film this is a prequel to, bugged the shit out of me. Just lazy filmmaking
>>217019802Harris put Hannibal in an alternate universe from the first two books. Look up the dates of the real world events referenced in it and you'll see none of it makes sense. The whole book is a "what if"
>>217019883Ok autist
>>217018670I like Brian Cox better as Hannibal too, if I’m honest.
I never watched all of Manhunter, just clips here and there but it felt really dry to me. Not sure if it's because I watched Red Dragon first but I also felt the casting for RD was a lot better too.

>>217018670>>217018748The main problem with all three adaptations of Red Dragon is that none are particularly interested in Francis Dollarhyde as a character. He’s basically the second protagonist in the book. Also Manhunter and the Ratner film aren’t particularly interested in the gothic horror aspect or the religious symbolism. Bryan Fuller was way more interested in his gay love story than anything in the novel but to his credit he actually tries to interface with Revelations. >>217019166I liked all three performances, but Cox is the only one that seems like a real serial killer. Hopkins became such a meme that his take seems a little goofy in hindsight. >>217020111Harris didn’t actually want to write any more books after silence. But the publisher owned part of the rights and they made it clear sequels were going to be written with or without him. So he crapped out a couple more so that he would get the money and not some hack ghostwriter.
Silence of the Lambs > Red Dragon > Stinky poop butt farts > Hannibal
>>217020111In the book Red Dragon, Will mentions Hannibal had cruelty to animals on his juvenile record
>>217022774He starts off tearing the tounge out of nurses and by the end of the series no woman could ever be in danger around him
>>217018670Norton was hailed as the 2nd coming of Jesus due to Primal Fear. Then...
>>217019328Manhunter is a genre masterpiece but have to get into a mood for it
