Bought a new tv and I can't help but notice that it came with the contrast and color cranked the all way up, right out of the box. I suppose so the picture looks "better" to your average consumer.I fear that this is how the masses are watching their tvs now, completely oblivious to how fucked up their picture settings are. And I weep for how many films are experienced for the first time in such a sorry state. And the real kicker is the tv didn't need the fluff job at all. The color and clarity look fucking great at normal levels. It's stupid, it's pointless, and it only makes the manufacturer look deceptive in the end.
Okay, but how does this affect me personally
>>217021216motion smoothing is even worse
>>217021216I’ve been there
still better than ""filmaker""" mode
>>217021306>be me>boomer parents have new tv>ask them to turn off motion smoothing>they say there isn't any difference>i turn it off later since they don't care>weeks pass >i mention how much better it looks without the smoothing >they go and reset it to factory defaults and tell me to stop messing with their picture, the creators know better than meplease kill me
>>217021404you're a retard
>>217021216Go to settingsChangeThanks. I charge by the hour btw
>>217021423>>i mention how much better it looks without the smoothingThere's your mistake. Every time I visit family or friends with screwed up settings I just fix it when they aren't looking. Not once has anyone seemed to notice.
>>217021426ok then have fun with buying a tv just to nerf it
Yeah you have to mess with the settings yourself. Or you can hire someone to calibrate it properly for you, really fucking stupid that this is a thing now but whatever.
>>217021216Wait till you realise what interpolation is>>217021423>having to brag about being rightYou sound insufferable. Go back, turn it off again, and don't say shit.
>>217021442>>217021514My point is why the fuck are they cranked all the way up in the first place.
>>217021950tvs are designed to sit on brightly lit show floors playing carefully selected footage that flexes their abilities, all the defaults are configured around this because it's the last part before they get their money
>>217021950It might be this>>217022044But I speculate it has to do with HDR. It's a nice technology but it is very poorly implemented to the point that almost all HDR content looks like shit regardless if you mess with the settings or not. The only time I ever bother with HDR is with video games but even then sometimes it is just so fucking bad.
>>217021491you're a retard
>>217022044>>217022323When I first got it there was a selection between retail mode and home entertainment mode. If I had selected the former, the insane settings would've made sense, but I didn't.Speaking of vidya, I'd also like to add that gayming on my new tv was giving me constant screen tearing.. until I turned "gaming mode" off.Without the juiced up settings, without the gaming mode it's a great film and gaming tv. All this shit is unnecessary and I can't figure out what the profit incentive was for them to include it.
>>217023478Gaming on these tvs is actually good, if you're experiencing screen tearing it might have to do with what game and/or system you're using. If you're playing on PC you need to check the display settings and adjust the refresh rate. Also, for a lot of games you need to turn off vsync and let the TV work its' magic. Also make sure all the gaming mode settings on the TV are right, IE freesync or gsync.
>>217023608It was across games, no matter what I set the hz, fps limiters, or v sync to, I wasn't getting any fix. Believe me, I spent hours tinkering with in-game settings and the nvidia control panel.I can only guess that in gaming mode, the tv was working on an assumption of only getting ~30 fps, but even so I was still getting tearing at 30 fps.But other than that temporary setback yes, these new tvs are great for gaming.
Bros, how do I set up my tv so I don't have to worry about a kinoisseur coming in and fiddling with it while I'm in the bathroom?
>>217023608>Gaming on these tvs is actually good,Yeah right. All that motion blur is awesome bro lmfao
>>217024049Samsung S95F OLED better than any gaming monitor. 4000 nits peak brightness, instant response time, infinite contrast ratio, 165hz, gsync vrr support
>>217024049You can turn it off if you don't cheap out on the TV you get. Otherwise, you can adjust it to where it is just barely noticeable. This is coming from someone that owns a TCL Q7 and LG C5. TCL has less options to adjust every setting, C5 has so many options that some of them are hidden.
>>217021404It is. Purists on suicide watch. I don’t give a fuck what the original experience looked like, I didn’t buy an OLED to look at a garbage picture.
>>217021950Because it looks better. Stay mad, cornball ass faggot.
Does anyone know if AI upscaling looks better now?I have a 2020's Sony Bravia and I'm impressed with it's reality creation upscaling, I'm just wondering if the 2025 models are better?
