What was Shredder's relationship to his ninjas? Adoptive fatherhood?

Still better than every movie that succeeded it.
>>
>>217021849
TMNT 1990 doesn’t get nearly enough credit for having comic/cartoon accurate costumes way before the MCU came along.
>>
>>217021987
>comic/cartoon accurate costumes
Unlike Marvel, where every costume was replaced with a black bodysuit, with a few exceptions.

Also, occasional jibes and hijinks which serve to contrast or highlight otherwise dark and sober themes. Unlike Marvel, where every serious moment is deflated with a quip.
>>
>>217021777
The Shredder uses them. He poisons their minds. He cares nothing for them or the people they hurt.
>>
>>217021987
>>217022103
The movie is nothing like the comics.
>>
>>217022434
The original early comics were a parody of Frank Miller’s Daredevil run. The first movie borrows Raph getting severely injured directly from them.
>>
>>217022507
>parody of Frank Miller’s Daredevil run
i.e. intellectual property theft

This movie is Kino of the highest order

Can't you retards talk about your love of something without mudslinging? No one asked you about capeshit.
>>
>>217022507
He's still right, it's more like the cartoon
>>
>>217023065
Well yeah. TMNT has been a kid friendly franchise far longer than it ever was a parody of gritty 80s/90s comics.
>>
Family? You call this >>>/pol/ here and that >>>/r9k/ there family?
>>
>>217021987
TMNT 1990 doesn't get enough credit, period. Being the most successful Independent movie of all time (at that point) is one thing and it being a comic book superhero thing means it was harder to do, not easier. And it's 100% kino.
>>
>>217023194
What even is /r9k/ these days? Every main board now is just a mixture of /pol/ and /r9k/ with a hobby/interest tacked on.
>>
>>217022623
>>217022507
Parody in the best way. Like taking a spice the original tries to pretend isn't there and making a whole cake out of it.

the movie is basically the first issue with some parts from other issues added in (April, the Ralph solo issue and the farm getaway)

The major theme of the TMNT movie is...

>FATHERHOOD

...so yes.

If I was an evil mastermind, I'd start a radical amusement park with really dangerous attractions to bring in new recruits and weed out the weaklings.

the upcoming street fighter movie is giving me early 90s tmnt movie vibes
>>

Shredder was swimming in bussy.
>>
>>217024772
You're being obtuse. The movie was very obviously targeting fans of the show and most of those people didn't even know it was based on a comic book at the time
>>
>>217021750
Seeing shredders lair as an 80s kid made me want to hang out with the bad kids as a 90s teenager.

Did they ever explain why the Shredder was building a teen/preteen thug army to be fodder for his ninja army? Like what is he after?
>>
>>217028200
The first movie is more violent and serious in tone than you’d expect, which is what makes it interesting. The sequels are much more kid friendly.

80s electronics. I think he was robbing the cargo docks of expensive japenese imports, but they arent above petty comic book streetcrime. If you had a teenage ninja army you'd let them steal nintendos and boomboxes.

What's with the bicycle helmet? This clown is supposed to be a bad guy?

I don't get why you're trying to frame this as some argument that you need to win, it's all good. The movie was very clearly only made to capitalize off the success of the cartoon and ALL of the movies are kid-friendly. The only reason it follows the comic at all is because the cartoon barely has a plot and doesn't have an ending.

Movies being darker in the first one then more lighthearted in the sequel(s) was quite common in that era. Examples: Terminator, Back to the Future
>>
>>217028880
Uh huh, and again that doesn’t refute what I said at all so what was the point of your reply?

Talk to the bad dude with the red arm band about your future with the foot.

>all the movies are kid friendly

You're a retard and your thread sucks.

No, I said the first movie is more serious in tone than young fans of the cartoon expected, which is accurate.

I was just thinking today that what this movie does so differently is admit that all the stuff you're told not to do as a kid genuinely is really cool, it's just that it's not worth throwing your life away for.
Adults usually lie to kids about sex and drugs and alcohol and hope it's enough to keep them on the straight and narrow but what happens when those kids realize they're being lied to? Isn't it better to just be honest with them about how temptation works and why it's not worth falling for? I like how much TMNT trusts its young audience to be smart when it teaches them a lesson honestly instead of trying to trick them.
>>217027447
Just rewatched Ooze yesterday after seeing the original again about a year ago. Will be watching the third soon since I got my wife the 4K box set for Christmas. Still gonna have to put the first way at the top but the second was pretty fun. Only remembered the back half of the movie from when I was a kid. Haven't seen any outside of the trilogy either but maybe I'll work my way to them after.
>>
>>217030293
that movie made a lot or Raphael fans. For me its Mikey because you can make homemade nunchucks if you dont mind hitting yourself in the nuts.
