Was Eyes Wide Shut about Epstein?

I will be the first person to mention what is mentioned in every thread like this: the story of Eyes Wide Shut is taken quite faithfully from a Viennese novella published in 1926.

Talking about Kubrick movies as if he made up the stories is sort of the modern equivalent of those movies where Shakespeare creates a story based on his own life, stories that in real life he did not create.

Lolita is closer, and only because Epstein obviously modeled himself after Quilty. Highly doubt Kubrick was aware of Epstein, let alone ever interacted with him.

I'm actually Arthur Schnitzler, you're right.

I could see Kubrick anticipating or believing in someone with his role, but I don't see how he'd know exactly who it was.
