As of right now, I am officially reopening the X-Files thread. Favorite monster?

I liked the shapeshifter who said he was Luke Skywalker and fucked a bunch of women.

You've gone too far this time, Mulder!
I'm re-closing the X-Files.

I'm at the end of S7 and this shit is really falling off. The Hollywood A.D. one sucks.

The vampire episode with the guy from Idiocracy and the fat kid from the Sandlot was incredible. The differing stories between Mulder and Scully are a great device for the framing. The whole episode is peak comedic X-Files.

Season 7 was extremely close to being the last season and the writers really telegraphed that in the hopes that Fox would take the hint and cancel them. Most of the loose ends from the mythology get tied up, cast members get their token episodes to direct, everything is just getting thrown at the wall story wise, Reqiuem is basically a series finale without the closure. Yet there are a lot of stale boilerplate MOTWs too, so it's a really weird year overall. I kinda loved Hollywood AD though. I'm a sucker for the meta shitpost episodes.
>>
>>217030572
It was interesting rewatching the Vince episodes and seeing his signature style take shape. Whenever there was a tense standoff scene it felt right out of Breaking Bad.

Was that a summer episode? I remember it was still light out and I debated whether to keep playing basketball or watch the episode. I know there was something about throwing sunflower seeds on the floor. I don't remember Luke Wilson, but I wouldn't see Bottle Rocket until '98, just months before Rushmore came out. I remember I was living in the city for college and I used the public library computers to get online. I wanted to know more about this Wes Anderson who Scorsese was calling the next Scorsese. I got to see Rushmore on the big screen almost all to myself.
I felt so alive being out on my own for the first time. Those were the days.
>>
>>217031886
Yeah, scattering sunflower seeds is the one. S5E12 "Bad Blood" apparently. It's just fun.

How is being locked up for the rest of your natural life being tested and experimented on before ultimately getting dissected in order to make a military superweapon out of you "not scary"?
Do you even realize the implication for that scientist? That tear running down his face as it sinks in that he will never leave?
That kind of shit is WAY scarier to me than some howling wolfman or some alien goo.

without having seen the episode:
>If we're posing as a couple we should make it believable and have sex, Mulder.
>Real couples don't have sex all the time, Scully, but if you insist we can make some noises at night, you know, go through the motions without doing anything.
>Noises? Nobody will fall for that, Mulder, we need to do it for real.

Started watching this recently and its getting on my nerves. Do they ever use their guns or are they fake. I know its not that kind of show but the amount of times they let a bad guy get away, or a civilian get killed, or even get themselves captured without firing a single shot is maddening. Often times they’ll pull the gun on a bad guy and he’ll just walk away or walk up to them and beat the shit out of them cus lol, he knows they’re not gonna shoot.

>>

You're an idiot. Maybe this isn't the show for you. It's not supposed to be action. The FBI doesn't need to shoot their weapons all the time.
>>
>>217037394
I'm currently in the middle of S2, and the one thing that gets me is just how many times the following happens.
>They are about to reach the actual spooky supernatural shit
>They find an excuse for Scully to NOT be present while Mulder witnesses the whole thing, so they can keep her being the skeptic
Either that, or they (usually just Mulder by himself for some reason) rushes in without care and easily gets knocked out to give the bad guy an excuse to escape.
>>
>>217034541

When you watched week to week and waited all summer for new episodes, that sort of thing wasn't so annoying. People binging streaming shows experience it in a way unintended when it was made.

They still had home video releases and box sets back then for people to binge, it's just lazy writing to keep churning out monster of the week content and not actually advance the plot.
>>
>>217039189
The X-Files gets a pass because it was made on the old network television model where they had to come up with 22 to 24 episodes every season. You’re bound to have some clunkers.
>>
>>217039189
Box sets were for people who had already experienced the show on TV. No one was buying them to binge for their first viewing.

This. It's like you can have knowledge of the past but if you didn't actually live then the knowledge doesn't make sense.
>>
>>217039504
Is that something you can torrent? I remember it being hard to find years ago when I wanted to see it. I had to watch The Lone Gunmen on Youtube.
>>
>>217039528
What is it you people expect to "happen" that isn't? You're just flabbergasted that shows don't all have a quick resolution or the same attributes as a movie.
>>
>>217039487
People say that shorter seasons mean every episode can be better, and how those 20+ episode per season shows usually had like 15+ that were filler trash. But honestly, I feel like even with the shit episodes, you at least got to spend more time with the characters and cared for them/knew them better. Always felt comfy to return to your favorite crew chasing a new mystery or whatever.

Surely they'll fear this laughingstock in the basement making outrageous claims.
>>
>>217039605
Agreed, and it’s why X-Files has so many comfy comedic episodes that became fan favorites.
>>
>>217031168
I think season 8 is much better than season 7, but stopping at season 7 is understandsble.
>>
>>217039189
The first DVD boxset was released when The X-Files was on its seventh season. There were VHS boxsets before that, but those only included 12 episodes per season, 2 boxes for seasons 1-3 and 1 box for season 4 (3 tapes per box, 2 episodes per tape).
>>
>>217032771
same, creeped me the fuck out
>>
>>217039632
Thanks. Did they say that the car was rigged to explode or not? I seem to recall not, which is why I remember it for being so absurd, but I could be wrong.
>>
>>217039605
If you can actually produce ten great episodes and no filler the shorter season can make a great deal of sense. especially if you have a single coherent story you want to tell.

The problem is the people who make the new series take what would have been a single episode, stretch it out over ten episodes, and fill it with garbage filler.
They people in charge of "prestige" television are trying to sell garbage as if it were something great.
>>
>>217039955
Yeah, the whole idea with Lost was that they could have it be a bunch of different genres in the flashback episodes. Kate on the run, Sawyer being a conman and so on.
>>
liked it as a kid but doubt I'd watch it again 2bh
it didn't have any memorable 'monsters' either as they were mostly implied to suit the tone of the show
>>
>>217039901
I don't think it was explicitly said, but it seems to be implied that he rigged it to blow up like that to throw them off his trail.

Basically vampires are real but they don't drink blood, don't have fangs and don't fear sunlight or crucifixes. They do sleep in coffins, hang around graveyards, they seem to have some kind of psychic powers and are extremely autistic/OCD.
They keep a low profile, aside from the pizzaboy who larps as a classic vampire, using fake fangs and killing people to drink their blood. All the local people are vampires too and once Mulder gets too close to exposing them they ko him and Scully and leave town.
