If you look at the MCU as a whole, everything was building to Endgame for a decade. That made the movie itself the culmination of a LOT of events.

For the first decade, MCU movies put "Good Movie" ahead of "Tie in to other movies" on their priorities list. So, maybe you didn't care for Iron Man 2, or Captain Marvel, but they were trying to make each movie good more than make each movie part of a larger whole. And arguably the biggest flaw in those 2 movies is they shoehorned more-than-usual amounts of connecting-to-other-movies into them.

However, once Disney saw the insane $$$ they got from tying in everything to one movie, they couldn't stop doing it. Since Endgame, those priorities swapped, and it was more important to tie everything into everything else, and give you Fear Of Missing Out. Then you'll
