Rewatched the first movie and it's a little jarring how much more threatening the humans are in it. Every weapon has punch, every vehicle feels heavy and almost indestructible, and the overall production value for the human side felt much higher. The landing scene at the beginning of 2 is the closest the last two movies have gotten to making the humans feel as dangerous as they were in the first, when they should have been at their LEAST powerful lore wise

I finally watched the third installment, and damn, I'm disappointed. Cameron doesn't care about the plot anymore. The bastard just wants to show the ocean.In the first film, the na'vi won because they fought against a private military corporation whose command vastly underestimated the natives, leading they soldies to fight on native territory without any plan. Even then, the na'vi lost a one-on-one fight, only able to win when Eywa sent an army of animals to help. A standard biblical David and Goliath story.In the second film, they only fought one whaling ship, and won with heavy losses. No surprise there, it all makes sense against the backdrop of a beautiful ocean.The third film is a disaster. I understand that good must triumph over evil, but how can I perceive this as an epic story of a confrontation between superior evil forces when the humans were simply degenerated so the protagonists could win? A decade of war, and humanity still haven't figured out the na'vi's tactics? Why is the general, a woman sent to lead humanity's ENTIRE mission to conquer living space on the planet, acting like a schoolgirl and not a general? Why didn't that bitch just evacuate the fucking ship and wait for it to die?!And that's not counting the stupidest movie cliches, like how when the bad guys shoot, they always miss, but when the good guys shoot, they always hit! And the fact that the Ash Tribe members were simply made into killing dummies. Seriously, they get killed in droves throughout the film, but they still managed to bring 100 riders to the final battle, and those 100 natives with grenade launchers and rifles were able to COMPLETELY turn the tide of the battle! The gunship is going down, Quaritch leaps from the open hatch down into the Amp suit and starts it up, all while his shoulder is ON FIRE! He manages to launch the drop pod and barely escape before it crashes. He finds Sully's trailer and about to take him out. When out of nowhere he sees impossibly, that Neytiri showed up riding a fucking THANATOR WHAT! No hesitation, it's on. A giant mech suit with heavy canon fighting an elephant sized 6, legged tiger in close combat and they're kicking each others asses. Big heavy hits and tossing each other around. Neytiri's mount breaks that fuckers heavy canon into pieces! With any other generic soldier, Neytiri would have easily killed and eaten him by now. But the Colonel is such a badass, he pulls out the backup knife and keeps fighting the crazy dangerous pair until he triumphs driving the knife deep into its heart. All that gave time for Sully to recover and arrive, where he picks up the broken canon's bayonet and gets into an awesome knife fight with the Colonel! It gets me so pumped watching it especially with the music. I could NEVER see General Whatshername personally doing anything like that.

They'd kill the other men, and divide the women as sex slaves. And then they'd make peace with the Na'vi, because war and dying suck.Think about it: Everyone on a Pandora assignment is there on a 12+ year deployment. So no one there has any friends and family to go back to in the first place. And all they get to do is grunt work in the jungle. Just wage slaving for corpos on another planet. The human bases on Pandora are depicted as mostly autonomous installations with assembly robots and 3D printing, where people basically live in post-scarcity. 100% the guys with guns would take over and retire there.
