They also share a unique connection to tragedy that Hermione/Ron struggle to understand. Harry doesn't need to immediately accept her, just have him find her cute but crazy upon first impression while his friends are disgusted by her. Later make her the target of school abuse that Harry goes out of his way to defend her from(convincing himself it isn't because he likes her but payback for all the times she has aided him) making himself a target in the process, and having them grow closer as a result. Harry's has an issue with waiting for girls to come to him and this could have been a moment for him to finally pursue a girl and make a choice for himself free from Hermione/Ron's influence. You also get some nice drama with Hermione that would place Ron/Harry in the middle of
