They basically changed how the tv shows and animations will work in relation to the MCU moving forward. They kicked all the shows/animations to sub studio banners. The problem viewers had was as you said feeling like they had to watch all the shows or they'd have a hole in the overall narrative. Miss one show and suddenly someone important is popping up in the movies and you have no idea who they are or shit that's being referenced. So now the future shows/animations aren't going to be important to watching the movies. They'll be more like extra, self contained content instead of essential viewing. The Wonder Man show was being made in the middle of them making the switch. Also it was a victim of the latest actor strike. They had to suspend their production of it for 10 months before resuming. So it lagged behind and is just getting released now when it should have been out around 2 years ago

He was originally just a one-off character that got killed off in his first appearance. The story goes that Marvel didn't keep him around to avoid stepping on DC's toes, but when DC created Power Girl, Marvel felt that DC wasn't extending the same courtesy in relation to Marvel's Power Man. So they brought Wonder Man back and made him a fixture in the Avengers.
Anyway raceswapping is still dumb and patronizing.
