This show is so odd, it’s very different from many of the adaptations that make it to TV.

The show is very aesthetically Fallout, they didn’t fuck that up at all. It’s like someone literally transported the game into television form. Even the quirk chungus shit isn’t that far off from some of the sillier dialog options in the game (Fallout was actually quirk chungus before it was cool) it’s very obvious that the writers of the show knew what they were working with, and I heard Bethesda was quite hands on with this show so I’m not surprised.

But the story is so fucking ASS it just bloody sucks. It’s like somebody told ChatGPT to take every single fallout plot and blend it together into a television show. Also they keep fucking killing everyone and buck breaking every fucking faction/group. Honestly I don’t get the outrage. The showrunners are literally being advised by Todd Howard, the creative genius who created Skyrim and Fallout, so if anyone understands the lore and where the franchise should go, it’s him. Lore isn’t some sacred fossil that has to stay frozen in 1997, it’s meant to evolve. Fallout was always about vibes, themes, and satire, not pedantic timeline nitpicking. If the show contradicts some old terminal entry or obscure side quest, so what? That’s called refining the canon. Skyrim didn’t become one of the most beloved RPGs ever by being afraid to change things, and Fallout shouldn’t either. People complaining just don’t like that Fallout is finally moving forward instead of being trapped by nostalgia.

It was noticeably bad in this episode because overusing it ruined the tension of the scene where the ghouls were held at gunpoint. About the only use that was necessary was to see the east coast guy smiling smugly in contrast to Maximus' and the ghouls' fear, so there'd be no confusion.
The action scene beforehand against the robot was bad to begin with, but cutting back and forth to their faces ruined the flow of the combat, which was weirdly weightless in the blows and incredibly sluggish in the movement.

TBF, that was always going to happen after Caesar died. Caesar hadn't appointed a successor by the time of New Vegas and was the only thing holding the army together. Caesar's Legion and the territory they conquered would've gone the way of Alexander's empire after he died.
