The first time I saw it I immediately knew the actual twist, because I saw a magic trick like that performed before and knew the secret. And then the “you want to be fooled” line at the end made me think maybe the Tesla machine didn’t work and Angier had a different way of doing his trick. But it simply isn’t possible. There are at least three Angiers at the end of the movie. The one in the morgue, the one that was shot, and the one in the tank in the last shot. Possibly one of them is Root, but unless Angier found another double, it’s just not possible.Also I don’t think Nolan is that smart.

>>217058114as much as i love nolan films this is probably my least or second least favorite narratively. i didn't know a single thing about the movie before watching other than it was about magicians and i still was able to call the ending. it's really obvious and you don't even need to pay that much attention to see it. spoilers ahead, just my personal critiques.also some stuff about the ending; i get the point of the movie is about obsession and sacrfice, but i don't think it's really done that well. for instance, angier having a literal cloning device. I get it's not about what he did use it for, it's about what he could have used it for. But when angier returns as lord cadlow and insists on buying the machine it kind of just shows that he does have other plans for it aside from magic tricks, unless lord cadlow is also a magician and i just missed that. Also, borden just letting the other brother be executed doesn't really have an emotional impact because we only ever gave a shit about one of them. We never had any scenes of them interacting as brothers together aside from the short compilation at the end where we just see them switching personas as borden and fallon. Lastly, in the beginning of the film during the court room scene, it's implied that michael caines character understands how angiers teleporting man trick works when the judge or whomever asks him to explain the trick in private. This means he knew angier was being cloned and then drowned each time, yet later in the movie he's surprised to see angier alive as cadlow like and didn't really know how the trick worked.I will say, for as much as I dislike this film narratively, I think it is one of Nolan's best looking films, so there's one good thing i can say about it. Also please correct me if I've misunderstood or misrepresented something so then maybe I can enjoy the film.
