The "knot" (the infinite loop of causes and effects) originated from a third world beyond the two parallels universes the show was taking place in. How she actually reached that conclusion is anyone's guess but let's call it a flash of philosophical insight2. In the moments immediatly after the big explosion that razes the town, time stands still and causality is broken. This allows new information to enter the "knot" at this moment without changing the future or the past.Eventually this information is used by the "next loop" Martha and Jonas to travel to the third world and fix the timeline.It's honestly extremely unintuitive, I can't blame the showrunners for failing to explain it but it definitely sours the show for me.
