insider here. this is a garbage fire so far. we're lucky if we get six out of eight relatively big actors we wanted in the first place.
the script being hyper-woke does not help either. for every white male doing his thing on the screen there are two strong independent latinas and a black hackeress who dont need no man. one huge guy agreed to everything and then had a look at half of the script for an afternoon then comically changed his mind on the spot invoking some vague health related reasons.
it's bad, it's 'LA Takedown' levels of bad.
we couldn't secure a proper SEA location in time so i guess we'll wing it here.
i could write a whole (better) book about what went wrong so far.
sorry for venting. go watch the original again and forget this.
live long and prosper.

Latinas and blacks in a Mann movie? I've never seen that before

De Nigro and Pacino would never agree to be in a miniseries, particularly back in the 90s

You’re looking at it from a modern perspective. Back then it probably would’ve been on network television which means scaling way back on the violence and R-rated dialogue.

>what are those dates
Michael Mann's book which is deviantart fanfic tier keeps flipping back and forth between 1989, 1995, 1996, 2000, 2002

1989 one of the first big score Neil is taking on with his Heat crew in Mexico but some black nigga who is on the run from Hannah gets involved and ruins his heist then disappears
1995 right after Chris takes off and Hannah tries to get info out of Eadie and tries to shake up Nate
1996 when Chris ends up in some shithole in Paraguay
2002 Chris ends up back in LA, tries to whack Hannah but through some sort of plot magic stumbles upon the black guy from 1989 which is tailed by Hannah and has a latina slut hostage who is tied to Neil and everything converges towards some street car crash and shoot'em up and ends with Chris taking off again and Hannah is about to shake up Nate again asking for info about Chris

whole thing feels like a National Lampoon's parody
>>
>>217066017
can confirm, I work with this real insider.
the film is a spectacle that should not be missed, guaranteed to be the smash-hit of 2026!
>>
>>217066347
their all made for fagits
>>
>>217068521
*also

it focuses way to much on Chris Shiherlis, nobody who watched the original actually cares about him and his whore wife who meanwhile went back to Vegas with his son and ofcourse hooked up with some other guy. Chris escapes at the end of the original movie and now (1996-2002) he is some kind of Ray Donovan for some gay chinese cartel in some favela town somehow trading military equipment around the world and even gets Kelso (who literally says he's behind seven proxies) involved, and ofcourse also bangs the daughter of some local crime sindicate boss.

btw Hannah is supposed to be this straight edge autistic detective who locks in on his target but does something really sketchy back in 1989 basically murdering a suspect in cold blood, very uncharacteristic and breaks the immersion into his character, i thought the point is Hannah NOT being like Neil, NOT walking on corpses and doing whatever it takes to score a score, instead he's like this cokehead speedfreak sociopath completely opposite of his original demeanor in the first movie.

I can give the Hanna cokehead bit a pass, since in the original 1995 script there was a scene of him getting his fix. But everything else about Heat 2 really was this retarded. It's fanfic-tier backstory for retards who didn't understand why he broke his own rule in the movie, or that Heat is at its core about the cost of ones' own vices, morals (or lack thereof), and obsessions.
There were some great ideas. McCauley and Hanna being exmilitary, the immediate fallout of the bank job, the return of relevant characters like Eadie, Nate etc. But it nosedives into the book version of a bargain bin DVD movie. Chris getting caught up with the triads because of his sexy azn hacker gf legit made my sides hurt.
Mann can come up with good ideas, but he needs someone or several people on a project who can reign him in and polish the execution. There's a reason he hasn't been relevant in 30 years. He's the boomer version of the autistic kid in computer class talking nonstop about super cool shit he thinks his super cool OCs would do. The book barely stands on its own let alone compared to the original; any adaptation was fucked from the start.
>>
>>217075611
why McCauley broke his own rule*
Perhaps I am also retarded

>>217065088
Hollywood hubris going down in flames is good for popcorn. So the Taiwanese-Paraguyan is now black?
>>
Why doesn't Mann "man up" + make shiherlis TRANS? He's doing more crime to fund his TRANSITION surgeries! Avenging his mentor is such straight macho bs!

>>
I hope Adam box office poison Driver bailed but I doubt it. He has a talent for being in insufferable overrated films.
>>
>>217076277
It's that too, but the larger picture is that he's a hypocrite in a very human way. Every error he makes inches him closer to his downfall, the thirty seconds line was just foreshadowing. He didn't heed Nate's warning and skip the bank ("With this much heat you should pass"); he didn't walk out on Eadie; he didn't let Waingro go. It makes him a Greek tragedy-ish antihero. You root for him because he's good at what he does, but also because the movie does a great job showcasing his humanity. We see him growing insecure over his age, his future, and the realization that his dedication to his work has destroyed any chance at a normal life. His loneliness, self-righteousness, desire for revenge, and desperation to "get out" of the life all team up to get him killed. Unlike Hanna, he didn't stick to his word, and he died for it (albeit in a bullshit way, he 100% had the drop on Hanna).
His survival hinged on committing zero errors, and he slipped up as an aging career criminal is bound to do. That's why the movie's ending was so good, and why it really didn't need anything besides a sequel instead of whatever the fuck Heat 2 was trying to do

>I can give the Hanna cokehead bit a pass
sure
btw my problem with Hannah throwing a suspect off a roof in this book is he's supposed to be this straight edge guy who doesn't crack under pressure. if he's that much of a hothead then during the 'swat at night' scene in Heat he would just grab two grunts with AR15's go inside the building and smoke Chris and Neil because by then he figured out Neil's crew smoked those 3 guards. the dissonance happens when Hannah is slowly and meticulously trying to build this huge case and take them all down in the first movie, but in the prequel-sequel he's off his rocker left and right, i mean perhaps he got wiser by 1995 but thats just lazy writing.

another nitpick tidbit of mine is when he allegedly figures out in the bookstore who Eadie was based on a suerveillance videotape from 3-4 weeks earlier when Neil bought the 'fractures in titanium' book. i mean how the fuck does a random ass bookstore in LA has 3 weeks worth of video tape surveillance in 1995 good enough for Hannah to spot Eadie based on his 4 seconds encounter with her in the first movie, even in the book before this he's like 'yea i remember ughh a woman, it was this woman waiting for him in a car'. bruh no fucking way he's not Robocop.

Thanks, I actually like Thief more but both explore a favorite theme of mine (true male loneliness as a result of professional obsession/dedication). Heat put Mann on the map for far longer though, so I guess that's why he's milking it so hard. Just a shame to see it turn out like this.

>>217079264
I think most of his films are like that, the one with the long-distance runner, Miami Vice, maybe not Blackhat, that one strangely seemed to be about the need for cooperation and maybe that's why it sucked so much.
