I thought the central dilemma of the son's relationship to his parents was well done. The almost dark fantasy tone to it all is an interesting and fresh take for a post-apocalyptic story. The infected in this are genuinely unnerving to me, which is more than I can say for 'zombies' in any other media. It also reminded me of a recurring childhood nightmare of being chased by sprinting mongoloids in the woods. The tonal whiplash of the ending that everyone hates was pretty funny to me as well

I liked big Ralph's character and section because that reflection on death and peace was nicely sombre.Jimmy and his gang were unfunny cringe. The juxtaposition would have worked for me if the film was satisfying up until that point. The violence was cheap and low stakes. I'd say I was laughing at the film instead of with it, but it didn't even manage that. The trailer with the Boots read was better than the film.
