Yes, the entire reason the show even happened is quickly and forcefully introduced at the very finale. With no explanation and just expecting the viewer to not question how it got there or why.
That is a plothole, as it expects you to accept that it just is despite there being more loose ends with it introduced than not. It should've been just a piece of gold in the suitcase and again, not a mcguffin.

Apparently it's at least partially explained in the play, which you either have to see in person or read about.
https://strangerthings.fandom.com/wiki/Stranger_Things:_The_First_Shadow
>It is explained that Brenner's father was the captain and sole survivor of the USS Eldridge experiment, who returned to the normal world with significant injuries and a unique blood type. Upon learning of this, his son Martin devoted himself to learning the truth behind the incident and established the Nevada Experiment, an attempt to reproduce what had happened to the Eldridge.
>However, one of the personnel stationed at the Nevada military base was a spy for the Soviet Union. They managed to escape while stealing vital technology, transporting it to a Nevadan cave. At this time, an 8-year-old Henry and the Creels lived nearby, in Rachel, Nevada. While exploring the Nevadan caves and playing with a spyglass, Henry stumbled across the stolen technology when it unexpectedly activated, transporting him to the Abyss.
Despite it supposedly being canon, just from reading this summary, there are blatant contradictions to the TV show, so I guess it's a pick and choose sort of deal? Either that, or the vision we were shown of Henry's childhood in Hawkins was just a fabrication, or a lie fed to him by the Mindflayer (which would be a fucking awful retcon, imo)

As per usual, the fan theories give the Duffer Brothers too much leeway. I would say they just fucking suck at writing and have terrible inconsistencies.
Also, making it so you HAVE to see a limited-run play that has vital information to your multi-million dollar show known globally is retarded.
Again, the mcguffin literally adds far more plotholes than removes. They should've kept it at some schizo in a cave with a briefcase almost killed henry, leading him to his first kill which traumatized him and made him a completely different person.

There will never be a satisfying explanation for the origin of this shit you idiots. It's pure fantasy. At some point they just have to end up at

what other explanation could there possibly be? So yes you might as well just leave it as a rock found in a briefcase of unknown origin. There's never going to be a better origin than that.

So uh, was this the scientist who left all his work in the upside-down lab?
This was the source of henry's powers? He wasn't born with them. No one on Earth was. Henry then went on to live a normal highschool life, interacting with joyce and co, and then uh ended up in "the lab" as a watcher over the kids they created from his blood? Why didn't they all just touch the rock? They didn't need his blood.

Pretty dumb asspull plot turn considering Stranger Things started out leaning heavily on the concept of old conspiracy theories such as the government testing and training psychic abilities in children. That was like the main attraction in S1. Instead they turn here and say it was le magic rock that gave cooties to Henry which made him magic. It just shrinks the worldbuilding.

>>
>>217074244
That's just wrong. I will say you're right, the official writers will never come up with something good or satisfying, but the answer was right there in front of their faces and they were just too dumb to realize it.
> MF and UD are otherworldly Eldritch entities from another dimension. This is a well understood concept that doesn't require further info. (Unlike a magic rock in a briefcase in our world that just happens to be there. Honestly the fact that it's in a briefcase raises even more questions)
> Henry's parents lived in a town where scientists from Operation Paperclip were doing behavioral control experiments by putting chemicals in the water, this resulted in Henry developing latent psychic sensitivies
> After moving to Hawkins (Hawkins is a hellmouth the veil between worlds is thinner than normal, another well understood concept that doesn't need to be explained in-depth) the MF senses Henry beyond the veil and reaches out (sort of like we saw with Joyce & Jonathan in S1 and Billy & Eleven in S3.) It starts as him "hearing voices" and "having imaginary friends" as well as nightmares but over the years he begins to have a greater affect. This also increases his powers.
> Eventually Brenner catches wind due to his research & experiments & attempts to study Henry. His experiments increase his power, resulting in him breaking through to the Upside Down, where he is captured by the Mind Flayer and mind flayed for years as he's studied, devoured, and twisted into something not human
> Brenner attempts to create a new Henry through his experiments but only succeeds when he realized the effects are most potent if a woman conceives while being dosed and the baby continues to absorb the chemicals while in utero
> He then kidnaps the children of the women he's experimenting on an raises them in the lab, attempting to turn them into weapons for tbe government and breach the Upside Down.
> Eventually El managed to open the gate leading to S1 E1.

>>
The finale is another Rise of Skywalker situation. It's actually uncanny how many similarities there are between that movie and season 5 of Stranger Things
>>
>>217077978
>Making the origin of his powers come from the mindflayer is lazy and stupid, not clever.
Agreed. It was far more interesting when the idea was that the Mind Flayer completely hijacked Henry's body and was able to control his powers that were foreign to the Mind Flayer.
It'd also explain why the kills were so infrequent in the earlier seasons as the Mind Flayer would have still been getting used to the powers.
>>
>>217076294
Season 4 was very popular and was more climactic than season 5. It's season 5 that will be forgotten and ignored because there's no substance to it, 90% of it was exposition and shitty dialogue scenes that went nowhere until the lame finale where the villains are effortlessly killed

It's more the incidental opening of the connection between their worlds. Having that degree of happenstance makes everything a little more interesting. Trying to retcon everything into being this loose convoluted plot by the mindflayer just makes it feel silly and devalues all of the other characters at play.
>>
>>217078492

The Duffer Brothers keep trying to pass off the idea that all of Stranger Things was planned beforehand.
It's common knowledge though that it was first an Anthology series, and S1 was written to be standalone, then Netflix told them to make it continuous if it went well, so they had to tack on S2 - 5.
The decline in writing very obviously outlines how much time they had to work on and really chisel out the detail in season 1, and how they progressively got more and more lazy and unmotivated as the show went on.

I just really wonder what drove them to ruin their own show, they should've hired somebody to help them keep on track if they knew there was a decline in quality. It's very obvious how bad it was getting, why didn't they even try to save it?
>>
>>217077972
> Episode one starts with them playing D&D
> The Upside Down is only called the Upside Down because when the boys asked El where Will was she flipped their D&D board upside down and put his figurine on the back of it
> Everything is named after D&D: Demogorgon, Mind Flayer, Vecna. Those aren't even they're real names they just call them stuff from D&D
> They figure out the villains plot and how to beat it every season by consulting the Monster Manual
> They refer to their group as the Party
> "I'm our paladin, Will's our cleric, Dustin is our bard, Lucas is our ranger, and El's our mage!"
> Will the Wise
> Will's campaign and continued efforts to play D & D across season 3
>>
>>217078583
>his death is still treated as a 'fuck yeah!' moment and nobody reflects on how tragic the guy's life actually was
They should've had a funeral for Henry, but the moment he died it's like Vecna, the mind flayer, and Henry never existed to the characters.
>>
>>217077975
To be fair if you started playing D&D when season one premiered you'd be playing for ten years at this point
>>
>>217073237

>the meat monster avatar in s3 was whatever but it's fine because it was a literal fragment of him in s3 causing all that havoc
>vecna cool as fuck in s4
>they are both a pair of comically inept jokers in the le ebin climatic season
I will maintain that the military subplot of s5 was its cardinal sin because it actually prevented anything epic like an all out war against Vecna/MF that the military still can't win which lends to the stakes of what's going on, meaning in s5 it SHOULD have been Owens in charge via some order from Washington.
>>
>>217078647
>The Duffer Brothers keep trying to pass off the idea that all of Stranger Things was planned beforehand.
I know and I can't believe some people actually fucking believe them, it's an obvious fucking lie because it sounds better than them making shit up as they went along.

>>217078647
> I just really wonder what drove them to ruin their own show
Being spoiled, petulant children that think they can just abscond to the next project and everyone will always love them. Same thing the GoT guys did.
>>
>>217078706
There is also the fact that what the fuck he hoped to accomplish with the plan would have entailed. WHAT exactly does 'merging' the worlds mean? Does it wipe out humanity or what? Sometimes Vecna seemed to demonstrate actual human empathy like when he strokes an unconscious Holly's cheek and said it will all be over soon, like part of him has empathy. The fuck happens? Does Earth 'merged' with the Abyss leave us in a world equivalent to a nuclear apocalypse?
>>
>>217078796
The Upside Down spreading like a cancer like what we saw at the end of s4 was much better and more ominous than whatever the fuck s5 was doing
>>
So ST season 5 is going down like a mixture of GoT and Sequel Trilogy yes? Like warmer reception than GoT got but, like the Sequels, that is due to copium that will dissipate over time. The final season deserves all the hate it can get
>>
>>217078886
Like GoT the show had been getting shitty for a long time and the writing was on the wall. Unlike GoT the show was never good. S1 and S3 were the only decent seasons, S4 had its moments.
The reception is warmer because unlike GoT which was a rushjob, this season was pure fanservice. It was STs uniquely terrible modern writing turned up to 11 because they wanted to get through a significant amount of storytelling and character development to position everyone where they were narratively for the marvel finale. The season was basically nothing happening as a backdrop for characters hamfistedly explaining things to the audience.
>>
>>217079010
>this season was pure fanservice
I wouldn't even go that far outside of Will getting his powers. S4's ending promised the stakes taken up to an 11, our world being fully invaded, etc. It totally failed in regards to making it feel like apocalyptic and the villains being any good.
