There are genuinely loads of people like this out there. People are adults, why do they insist that children's media is really for adults? They literally made toys of The Last Airbender. It aired on a children's cartoon network. What causes this? It's even worse when they get mad that the children's show isn't nuanced enough.
>>217078317Avatar is a good show though. Certainly better than Blue Space Pocahontas.
Mad Men is a soap opera set in an old timey ad men's world. I would honestly recommend against watching it. It might draw you in but there is never any payoff, it just keeps spinning new webs and never solving them satisfyingly.
>>217078410It's less "smart" than something like The Wire, The Sopranos, or even Breaking Bad but it's definitely above network TV and a mile above even the "best" children's cartoons.
>>217078589I'll agree with that.
>>217078712I have always held the opinion that Mad Men was the absolute bottom tier of "serious" TV of the time. It just makes sense
The problem with "children's media" vs "adult media" is that there is no actual restriction on what art you can observe. There are kids all over the world who grew up watching bloody slasher movies in the 80s, and no one really seemed to care. Or in the early 2010s, when COD was a video game marketed towards adults that was played by children, vs Pokémon that was marketed towards children and yet played by adults. It's not like kids are creating "children's media" anyways. If the right artists have good enough talent and permission from the studios, they usually want to make something that they would enjoy watching, like the 90s lineup from Cartoon Network. Johnny Bravo, Powerpuff Girls, and Dexter's Lab were all creator-driven shows, on a network that was originally created for boomers to watch cartoons from their childhood that were no longer airing. As a kid, you want to be an adult and as "mature" as possible. As an adult, everything seemed so much simpler as a kid, and with proper critical thinking, can actually observe and reflect on the art they're watching
i watched slippin jimmy
>>217078589>>217078820Mad Men is more subtle than any of those shows and better imo. The characters feel real and their lives go how you would expect. Peggy aborts her baby and it genuinely never comes up again except in her actions. Only problem off the top of my head is the creator's retarded son who can't act
>>217078589>smart>the wirePick one (1).
Kind of like the people on this site who will get all butthurt and defensive when you point out shonen anime is for teenagers
>>217079140All the kid stuff was awfuuuul
The Sopranos, Breaking Bad and various other "adult" TV series are literal cartoons with massive leaps in logic and characters who act like complete caricatures of real people. The Wire has a fucking magical black guy in it who is basically invincible until the plot no longer needs him anymore. In fact it has two of them!Mad Men is also boomer circlejerking and should not be taken seriously whatsoever.
>>217078347It's not good, brother.
>>217079718You sound very stupid.
>>217079085The issue with when something gets earmarked as "Children's Media" is that they cater it exclusively for Children (or nostalgic manchildren) to watch on their own TV/iPad as nanny style and usually dumbing it down to what a middle aged network executive thinks a child is capable of understanding (essentially geared towards the least alert and inquisitive child in the age range). When the best media for children now and historically is just "family orientated" so that it's made so the parents and older siblings can enjoy it too. Stuff like adding jokes mom and dad will laugh at but the kid won't understand and including more complex references and concepts to broaden the kids understanding. Much better than Kids Media™ that ranges from 0 substance to borderline brainrot.
I like Avatar: The Last Airbender, its wholesome and has better writing, world building and continuity than 95% of shows. Also obvs written for teenagers since it has death, fighting, etc
>>217079944>than 95% of showsIf you genuinely believe this, it's a you problem.
>>217079803It is. Avatar was the best show on Nickelodeon and one of the best kids shows ever.
>>217079974Name 3(three) shows better than Avatar.
No I don't watch Stand Around and Quip aka cartoons made for adults.
>>217080001>Best show on NickelodeonThat's not Rocko's Modern Life
>>217080043Lol so randumb garbage
>>217080026Sopranos, Wire, Twin Peaks, Cowboy Bebop, Ping Pong, Yuyu Hakusho, and thousand others.
>>217079880I agree, in the same way that adult media needs to be seen as "smart" or "important" for it to be legitimate, as opposed to media that delves into heavier topics that kids may not totally understand. Media criticism seems to be very weird now that everyone is able to post their feelings online. It's one thing talking to your co-worker about something you like, it's another when random internet strangers say "you're stupid" because you like a piece of media
>>217079974The problem is that ATLA is 5% of all the TV shows he ever watched if you don't count anime. That's almost always the issue with these people. Any faggot that says that "nailing the ending" for a show is a hard thing to do is a surefire tell that he hasn't seen that many shows. There are mediocre shows that have 11/10 endings that you couldn't even conceive of them being able to do, like the DeuceJustified had a bad last season yet still nailed it's ending.
>>217080193Things that get milked to death and big franchises generally don't have good endings. In other words, as you said, if you put slop on your plate you're gonna eat slop.
>>217080057It's literally the animated self-insert autobiography of a 1980s degenerate but with edits to make it "kid" friendly. The episode about Rocko chewing his fingernails as crazy as it sounds was meant to be about the creator's alcoholism
>>217078317If someone says that, just show them what modern kids shows look like. Pull up the shows from the past 5 years. Show them the stuff that's made for the same age bracket as ATLA and Ed Edd n Eddy today. Even the tumblr crowd stopped watching ~8 years ago, they don't know.
>>217079974How is this debatable? the majority of tv series are poorly written and fade into obscurity soon after they've finished airing, unlike ATLA which gains a larger fanbase and appreciation year after year.>>217080193Thats a random and unfortunately incorrect assumption. Its safer to assume that me and all the other anons on this image board have wasted far more of our lives on watching shit than just 20 tv series
>>217078317> mad men>advertising and child abuse is so adult! That evil shit should not have been allowed to exist>>217078410>is a soap operaIt aired 200+ episodes a year?
>>217080798>Its safer to assumeNow you are just exposing yourself as a tourist to begin with. It's safer to assume that the vast majority of the board hasn't seen more than 20 core shows. Hence why the discussion on them is regurgitated again and again. That's why there is a never-ending contrarianism race of people making threads about BB.The assumption isn't random. If you watched enough tv shows you'd realize that more shows know how to end on a high note. It's the consistency between all seasons that is hard and almost unfathomable. ATLA is not exempt from this.
>>217080977AWWWW YEAH TIME FOR THE ZUKO ROMANCE BEACH EPISODE
>>217080920Of course you show up in a thread about children's entertainment. Hang yourself freak
