Puppet had normal arms, it's just that the lens used for the fall creates distortion.
They should have used the same effect from Die Hard, but maybe it was too expensive or wasn't invented yet.

It’s weird, but the choppy stop motion for ED209 has actually gotten better with age for some reason. It really gives off an uncanny valley vibe, and adds a lot to it being both threatening, and incompetent at the same time.
Also say what you will about the sequel, but that shot of Robocain rapidly climbing the elevator shaft is incredible

I always liked the way he says "Thank you!" when tossed his keys when he's going out to bust crime for the first time. It has a weird amount of personality behind it's inflection which is out of place for Robert Cop but funny nonetheless.

Interesting to see videos "fixing" stop motion by adding more frames per second.
The result is not bad, it just looks like a live-action puppet.
But definitely something is lost in the process: the low framerate is a feature on it's own. I wonder how creepy can a live human be if stop-motioned.

>>
>>217079954
I remember in a behind the scenes thing the actors were saying how Verhoeven didn’t realise that “bitches” was an offensive term, and just assumed it was a generic term for women. So when directing the scene he’d be like “and zen ze bitches you vill be on ze couch and zen ze bitches vill quickly run avay when ze bitches are told to leave” and the whole cast were barely containing their laughter

The scene where Murphy is killed still disturbs the fuck out of me more than most horror films do. It’s not the gore, it’s the way the villains are enjoying themselves, mocking him, humiliating him. It’s so cruel and dehumanising that it actually hurts my soul. Makes for a great final sequence seeing them all get killed, especially Clarence
>>
>>217080273
Yeah I like when you are just walking around the city dealing with basic crimes cause that does feel very Robocop but then when you have to roll into an apartment and the detective gameplay is "scan these three different things in the room" and you do that constantly in the game it starts to get old. Whenever it's gunfighting though the game is amazing. The prison level is goated

The sequence with the failed Robocop 2s killing themselves was so good, as was the part where his brain is filled with dozens of stupid directives. Plus the stop motion sequences with RoboCain felt more intense than the ones of ED-209.
2 has really good scenes, some stronger than the original, but they don’t flow cohesively like in the first one.

>Interesting to see videos "fixing" stop motion by adding more frames per second.
The problem is that it doesn't fix it at all. Adding in frames doesn't magically create additional movement from the puppet from one pose to the next. The only time a higher frame rate works is when it's recording new information, taking something that was originally recorded at 24 frames per second, then doubling the same frames and playing it back faster doesn't add new movement. It's just playing the shot at the same speed in fast forward.

what you're trying to describe is interpolation, where it will take frame 1 and frame 2, then divide the difference between them and insert a frame 1.5 so the change in frames has a smoother feel to them.
i highly recommend turning this off on every SmartTV you ever interact with for the rest of your life not just your own.

rob dougan is a great composer when he chooses to compose
james newton howard, howard shore, harry gregson-williams, john powell sometimes, these are all composers who would fit in the verhoeven weave
the composers for eddington, daniel pemberton & bobby klric, would do a solid job.
>>
>>217080814
it comes turned on by default on their tvs, if you turn it off they suddenly remember that their favorite shit actually looks better when it's playing back at the intended framerate.

>>
>>217080780

Interpolation is one thing, and can be beneficial, but a lot of the time I just see people literally doubling the exact same frames so the playback is at a higher frame rate.

that doesn't impact the playback. if you have a big black circle in frame one O and a small circle in frame 2 o when you take frame 1 and double it now you have O O o. it's still playing back at 24fps, you don't see the 2nd O, you see the same O doing the same thing it was doing the whole time before you arbitrarily added a 2nd frame of it.
the only way to see a frame 1.5 would be for the O to be doing something other than what frame 1 is doing.

He's the main bad guy in the 1994 TV series and called Pudface. In the TV version of the movie, they didn't show his death, it got cut. So, when making the TV series, they decided it could be canon that he survived.
>>
>>217081323
That's not really a flaw, especially when no one notices like he said.
That's like saying the shadow growing when Robocop approaches the rapists was a flaw because logistically it wouldn't work that way if he was getting closer to them but they did it like that anyway for stylistic reasons (and again, no one noticed)
A technical FLAW would be when you can see Weller's human neck between the costume pieces in some shots

There's a DVD box set, but they used to play it on the Comet channel and that's where I watched it.
The pilot episode is movie length and actually based on an unused script for the sequel. After that, it's really more of a kid's show. Robocop doesn't use his gun. But there are still some enjoyable episodes. Pic related is the Nancy Allen of the live action TV show, although she's not supposed to be the same character. There's also a female character that gets killed and turned into AI, which is kind of cool.

Incidentally, the actor, Richard Eden, that plays Robo is really fantastic and managing to replicate Weller's walk, but there's a subtle difference. Weller came up with the idea that Murphy's brain is actually in Robocop's chest cavity, so when he's walking a makes a turn, the chest moves first and then the head follows, which is something other actors like Eden and Robert Burke tend not to replicate.
>>
>>217082127
that's a neat idea, but if murphy's brain was in the chest then why would they go to the trouble of the helmet casing? plus that chest gets lit the fuck up, no way is the brain stored there.
>>
The 86 screenplay draft is an interesting read. The cops drive weird turbine jet-cars and the Media Break segments constantly talk about stuff like moon colonies and cloning companies. I think it's supposed to be in the 2040s, since they talk about Stallone dying in his 90s due to a botched brain transplant operation. Making it into a more grounded and gritty very near future setting was the right call.
>>
>>217082127
>>217082196
Yeah, in the documentary Weller talks about how Robocop's body turns first because his brain is in his chest, the the body would react before the head.
In Robocop 2, Hob, the kid villain, says 'I heard he has a brain in there' as he's trying to break open Robocop chest plate.

You could argue that they needed space for all the sensory equipment in the head and the chest cavity has more space to hold the brain.

>plus that chest gets lit the fuck up
True, but it's also arguably the most armoured area on Robo. With the chest plate, and then whatever protection is afforded by the architecture of Robo's torso. Which admittedly does end up with a hole going all the way through it in the pilot (a really well done visual effect for a TV series too), but it could have missed the brain itself, and does fuck him up harder than anything else in any incarnation of the character, minus the total dismemberment in Robocop 2.
Also if you're a toy collector, the Robocop The Series figure had a removeable chest plate and helmet you could switch with battle damaged versions. I had (and still have) it as a kid along with Madigan, Pudface, the police cruiser, and the crygenic playset where you could put Robo in a plastic container with water, freeze it, then use tools in the playset to drill him out. Those toys fricken ruled.

No, making a satire out of Reagan era economics, corporate statism, corporate privatization of public services, militarization and dehumanization of the police, disposability of the workforce, surveillance state, normalization of violence through media, gentrification and criminalization of poverty, among others is very pro-capitalism.
>>
>>217082196
>>217082282
Was that a commonly known piece of trivia? There's a cyborg in the Gunnm manga that has his brain in his chest and a decoy head that's just there to draw fire. Maybe that's where the guy who wrote/drew it got the idea.
>>
>>217082398
Maybe he missed the brain. I don't know. But based on the documentary and that scene in 2, it sounds like brain in chest was the consistent idea. Weller's acting even takes it into consideration, as I said.

Where Cain's brain (essentially Cain) is floating in the tube, unable to blink while the doctors walk around with his empty severed head and his dead body lies in the background. All of that and the sounds of the tools and viscera are perfectly disgusting.

There's also the vivisection scene with Duffy that I still can't believe they replicated in a He-Man cartoon. Picrel.

I only noticed recently that after ED shoots the guy in the boardroom you can hear a scientist yell “he didn’t hear the gun!”
So that means ED was programmed to visually recognise when a gun was pointed at him, but the only way it would know to stand down is with a very specific sound of a gun hitting pavement . It’d mean he’d also open fire if they placed the gun on the pavement rather than throw it. Not to mention it doesn’t give a shit if someone is pointing a gun at anyone else
I love how terribly designed he is

I didn't know there were ones based on the live action show, but had the action figures from the original movie and cartoon. I remember I had the car. I don't know what happened to them and that sucks.

Robo Cain scared me when I was a kid, the idea of putting a junkie murderous brain in that machine..
Also elements like the mob kid shooting, no way a mainstream movie is gonna do things like that in these faggy years

Somewhere in a commentary track or documentary they say that the whole top of it is supposed to be a giant microphone to pick up sounds. I'm not even sure it necessarily "saw" him point the gun, I think it heard him cock it and homed in on the sound. It's also hard to hear, but it doesn't react until he does that.

nobody ever said the movie was pro-capitalism, retard. but by nature of being a film released commercially, it is.

Even all these years later I still don't get why he kills her. Is it because she reminds him that he's now in the machine body and he loses it, or was he just playing nice to trick her from the start?

I assumed he had directives and programming he was bound to just like Robocop. He probably had something like "kill all witnesses" for that job and literally could not disobey it once it kicked in, like when Robo tries to arrest Dick Jones.

It's a fun movie but the racial demographics are obviously skewed for political reasons.

>As of 2025, the public market is open on Saturdays year-round and on Tuesdays and Sundays during the summer months. The wholesale market operates at night every weekday from April to November. At peak times during the summer, Eastern Market can see up to 40,000 visitors in a single day.
Go on one of the days the market is open and you both will be fine.

it would be better without the human elements, like he didn't need to be a human before he became robocop, he could've just been born a robot

Funny that the police have a difficult time finding him when he's at Tigers Stadium a couple of times a week.

Are you implying it’s unrealistic that black people are in Detroit?
>>217083635
That’s what gave it it’s entirety identity, and theming around Murphy restoring his humanity. To me that’s the most engaging aspect of the film

Go back and watch the movie again. Black people are in the minority, be it people on the streets, in shops, in the government, or the police (closest to 50/50), not to mention Clarence's gang. One could argue for OCP, that made sense, but pretty much everywhere else, it's quite glaring, especially for the time period.

>Joe gets blown up and impaled on some rebar or something
You forgot the best part. He's run through on a chunk of metal, then he dies screaming as two guard dogs eat him alive. It's meant to be karmic payback or whatever you want to call it because he blows up a pet shop full of animals in the scene where Boddicker hands out the Cobra guns.

The reason Murphy and Lewis decide to basically kill themselves in the opening of the movie is retarded.

But otherwise, yes.

pic unrelated

The asian guy also gets off too easy. He just gets unceremoniously shot once and falls into some boxes. At least the black dude gets riddled with multiple bursts.
