Name a more iconic retrofuturism classic science fiction film. You literally cannot, every aspect of "old scifi classic aesthetic" comes from this movie.
>>217109114Because of your thread, I will watch this. Not immediately, but I will.
>>217109114My dad loves this movie, but I have zero interest in watching it. Looks like dumb nerd shit.
>>217109114The Day The Earth Stood Still
>>217109443Based.>>217109508Unbelievably cringe, holy SHIT.
>>217109114>retrofuturismit was made in 1950s so its actually just futurist retard
>>217109114The woman made me horny as a kid. Imagine going to this exotic planet and there's this woman who skinny dips because she don't know any better and she goes barefoot all the time.
>>217109114>>217109443If you like original Star Trek, watch this movie. It is very interesting. Also, seeing Leslie Nielsen in a completely straight man role before he did comedies was surreal.
>>217109114wasn't that aesthetic taken from scifi illustrations from the decades prior
>>217109789>>217109984Die in a fire.
>>217110024you're actually the pretntious one by calling it a 6 syllable word that doesn't even apply to it instead of calling it an on old sci-fi movie.
>>217110143Contribute to the thread or fuck off, autistic.
>>217109443It's actually really good. Very cool concept.
>>217110198I already did and it made your clitty leak
>>217109114Plan 9 from Outer Space (1958)The War of the Worlds (1953)The Time Machine (1960)
>Plan 9 from Outer SpaceSmartass
>>217109114just finished watching it, brilliant flick thanks for the rec
>>217110755D-did you really?
>>217110790yeah dude, absolute kino, just my thing. i've been watching lost in space/old sci-fi stuff a lot lately. stuff i've always wanted to see but missed out on
>>217110831You ever seen Metropolis? The 1927 one, not the anime.
>>217110883yep, i liked it. i love ancient movies, the characters stand out a lot and make great references for drawing unique characters
>>217110831Based. You're welcome anon.
for me it's Planet of the Vampires
>>217110931holy based this looks sick. definitely next. thanks for the rec
>>217110667I was pleasantly surprised by the Time Machine. I think transforming the morale from class warfare to war worked pretty well, and the creature effects for the morlocks were good.
>>217110831What else have you watched recently that you'd suggest?
There's actually weirdly few old Sci-Fi movies that have that 'Retro Sci-Fi' look and vibe. ...But they're all utter kino.
>>217111249They include: Battle in Outer Space (1959)
>>217111273The Green Slime (1968)
Invasion of the astro monsterThe Mysterians
>>217109114The quintessential sci-fi movie.>>217110931That generation of Italian horror directors knew how to properly use color and lighting.
>>217111303Planet of the Vampires (1965)
>>217111360Barbarella (1968)
>>217111128the past couple months have been somewhat random, i just workout, yap with a buddy, and rot. but before bed i've been watching a few odd things:old twilight zone episodes i don't remembertales from the crypt (carefully selected, i love it but some are better than others) inner sanctum radio shows (vincent price and lon chaney did some great ones)mission hill rewatchATHF rewatchancient ads on youtubenutcracker balletswan lake balletmst3k episodes i've missedold ernest adsold country music concerts from around the 70shttps://www.youtube.com/@betagemslostmedia607/videosotherwise i'm just reading 1940s/1950s era archie comics, old comic strips, and chipping away at ' a confederacy of dunces' (i'm a slow reader). i need to rewatch the 80s era of twilight zone episodes too, i remember loving some of those.
>>217109757Sorry, I like films about real things. Not gay aliens.
>>217109114Science Fiction ooooooohh, Double FeatureDr. X oooooohhh will build a creatureSee androids ooooooohhhh fighting Brad and JanetAnne Francis stars in oooooohhhhh Forbidden PlanetWa-ah-ah-oh-ohAt the late night, double feature picture show
>>217111379Star Crash (1979)
>>217111379epic space babe kino
>>217109114Any movies like this that are actually entertaining? I've attempted to watch it numerous times but it's always so slow and quiet and nothing happens and it always puts me straight to sleep.Great sleep aid though.
>>217111391>nutcracker ballet>swan lake ballet>1940s/1950s era archie comicsholy based, btw I recommend the ballets of Sir Kenneth MacMillan for any appreciator of classical dance kino
>>217111444Wild Wild Planet (1966)
>>217111472that's pretty funny, i couldn't pry myself away when watching it. i guess some people do find some of these oldies boring, but i just keep being in awe of how everything is shot, how things look and the differences i the focus of action. when they were shooting the invisible monster, i realized in a modern film there would have been several perspective changes and cuts to get different feelings. the lack of deliberate emotional manipulation through an ever present soundtrack is also really interesting in those old 50s/60s films. it's all just too rad
>>217111517... And its sequel, War of the Planets (1966)
>>217111496thanks so much dude
>>217111533The Mysterians (1957)
Any of these old scifi classics that are actually disturbing/unnerving or is all super sanitized conservitard boomerslop?
>>217111273>>217111303these beams look so sick
>>217111619Mechte Navstrechu (1963)The production design is incredible
>>217111696Flash Gordon (1980)
>>217111717Ship of Monsters (La nave de los monstruos) (1960)
>>217109114All the sci fi movies mentioned in the opening to rocky horror are all top tier kinos worth watching
>>217111601you might like cronenberg films like the fly, videodrome, scanners etc. although the disturbing factor comes from body horror or visual repulsion more than a mental/ethical aspect with that guy. just off the top of my head.
>>217111732The Creation of the Humanoids (1962)
>>217111732
>This made boomers shit and piss their pants in utter terror
>>217111759this looks great
>>217111759The Tenth Victim (1965)
>>217111802It's weirdly well written and shot for something that clearly cost ~$5
>>217109114I think the thread's cool but that's not really retrofuturism, if it's contemporary, is it?Stuff like Radioactive Dreams and Six-String Samurai are retrofuturistic.
>>217111949>Radioactive Dreams>Six-String Samurai Those look like fucking SHIT
>>217111873The Giant of Metropolis (1961) A bizarre Sword-and-Sandal/Retro Sci-fi blend with god-tier art deco production design
Just watch Zardoz
>>217111998Planeta Bur (Planet of Storms) (1962)
>>217112015>ZardozBASED, BASED, BASED!
>>217112018The Fabulous World of Jules Verne (1958)Definitely one of the coolest looking films ever made, though perhaps less retrofuturistic and more actual steampunk
>>217111987YOU LOOK LIKE SHIT
>>217111747>>217111796Not that one, moron - the 1986 version
>>217112018Looks like a movie MST3K would have covered.
She was a cutie.
>>217109114>every aspect of "old scifi classic aesthetic" comes from this movieNot really. Pulp sci-fi was already established decades before this film. The real origin is Princess of Mars and Buck Rogers generally speaking.
>>217112209Nuh-uh. They didn't use theramins.
>>217112237 There are no theremins used on the Forbidden Planet soundtrack
>>217112266BULLSHIT
So every Ren & Stimpy space episode is borrowing heavily from Forbidden Planet huh?
>>217112282It's true, it's circuit-bent feedback loops rearranged Musique Concrète style.
>>217112380>He googled itlmao
>>217112441>GoogleThe weak tool of those whose brains aren't endless piles of trivia
>>217111427I want to go oh oh
