The hype around these movies here made me think I was going to witness the most insane snuff film tier shit I had ever seen, and then I watched it and it was really stylized and almost cartoon-y, and clearly the director is just passionate about practical effects and makeup. It’s not subversive or anything really at all, and I could even argue the opposite — that the films are really a display of passion and of hard work and even beauty (in terms of well done makeup and practical effects).
