What a very odd film.
I definitely understand why people don't talk much about it when talking about Herzog's filmography. It's kinda really dull a lot of the time but there's a very odd compelling quality about it.

Theaters are dying, now as a shut in, I dislike theaters, I think at home the experience is better. I've never really felt the need to go out and see a movie outside my room. You could say I have a bigger insight into the proper artform honestly

Gio here...I have never been to a theater ever since, last time it was Blade Runner 2049...
Remember I am a shut in, am I actually missing out on anything, I never got the sense of what "overwhelm the senses" meant. Film to me is video art, and I really like some very experimental stuff over "orthodox" filmmaking.

To me film is the download of abstractions, I like Lynch for that, I have never felt a difference of when I used to go out and see a movie in a theater compared to what, watching in the dark at home.

Wow, no one likes The Grapes of Wrath, huh. I thought it would be one of the top choices because I always see people jerking it off as a masterpiece.
>>
>>217125872
My source is that I made it up. But given how much Ozu liked Hollywood and Ford was at his peak when Ozu would've been watching those movies, I'd say that he was probably familiar with his stuff and appreciated it.

got a bunch of Westerns for 2$(NZD) apiece at a charity shop, two of which - both directed by Ford - came from a "John Wayne series", which annoyed me so much. i know people care too much about 'actors' but it's a practice that should be discouraged

Only watched the longer (theatrical) cut and it was excellent, although it was a commercial failure and even Cassavetes disliked it and ended up editing it into a shorter (director's) cut... I should really watch that one soon.

YOu canthink whatever you want. Just saying film was made for the big screen... but if you asked me I must have watched 50% of films on my computer screen, 49% on the tv "small screen" and only 1% on the big screen.
But putting that aside, sometimes I feel that, as I said certain scenes that either have a particular visual or emotional component, the experience would be much better if it was in the cinema.

one of the trashy slav stereotypes (really isn't a stereotype cause this shit is true) is that they love filling fridges top to bottom with magnets, often those magnets will have some boomer ass anecdote
Radu Jude constantly incorporates eastern european trashy stereotypes into his movies in a self-aware way, and Dracula specifically reminds me of this "Fridge magnet anecdote" aesthetic

Battleship Potemkin is one of cinema's greatest achievements. It's a film that can't be replicated in novels, music or painting. The editing has a perfect rhythm, turning the film into a series of sequences that effectively elicits a emotional response from the viewer. A filmmaker like Rohmer is just bland in comparison. He doesn't use the power of cinema to its fullest. He is just making filmed novels. Maybe it was interesting a couple decades ago, not anymore i'm afraid.
>>
>>217141183
>It's a film that can't be replicated in novels, music or painting
So what?
>The editing has a perfect rhythm
Cash this out in non-question-begging language or it's meaningless.
>He doesn't use the power of cinema to its fullest
Essentialist and implicitly conflates drawing on all available capacities as drawing on them well.
>He is just making filmed novels
Define "filmed novel" in a non-question-begging/non-circular way or it's meaningless.

Not that guy, but no, Mirror doesn't have a plot. The story of Mirror is nothing but ruins and that is very beautiful, because Tarkovsky said that he edited the film 7 times in 35 mm. Those 6 times there was nothing and the seventh time he finds Zerkalo.

The key about Tarkovsky is he was a manlet. Small people try to create a big impact to create worship. It is all a scam. Bergman was over 6'4, his art was that of a tall man with little to prove. Tarkovsky lived to be worshipped, Bergman was non-pretentious. He even praised M Night Shyamalan toward the end of his life. It was Tarkovsky shit talking directors like that in all his books with his manlet rage.
