What a very odd film.I definitely understand why people don't talk much about it when talking about Herzog's filmography. It's kinda really dull a lot of the time but there's a very odd compelling quality about it.

Copped tickets to see Tenebrae on the big screen, lads.
What John Ford movie should I watch?- The Grapes of Wrath- My Darling Clementine- Fort Apache- She Wore a Yellow Ribbon- Rio Grande
Theaters are dying, now as a shut in, I dislike theaters, I think at home the experience is better. I've never really felt the need to go out and see a movie outside my room. You could say I have a bigger insight into the proper artform honestly
>>217125103hey jude
>>217125727Is it your first? Anyway, My Darling Clementine
>>217125727My Darling Clementine and She Wore a Yellow Ribbon are kino of the highest order.
>>217125727My Darling Clementine is one of the greatest westerns ever
Gio here...I have never been to a theater ever since, last time it was Blade Runner 2049...Remember I am a shut in, am I actually missing out on anything, I never got the sense of what "overwhelm the senses" meant. Film to me is video art, and I really like some very experimental stuff over "orthodox" filmmaking. To me film is the download of abstractions, I like Lynch for that, I have never felt a difference of when I used to go out and see a movie in a theater compared to what, watching in the dark at home.

>>217125872My source is that I made it up. But given how much Ozu liked Hollywood and Ford was at his peak when Ozu would've been watching those movies, I'd say that he was probably familiar with his stuff and appreciated it.

got a bunch of Westerns for 2$(NZD) apiece at a charity shop, two of which - both directed by Ford - came from a "John Wayne series", which annoyed me so much. i know people care too much about 'actors' but it's a practice that should be discouraged

Battleship Potemkin is one of cinema's greatest achievements. It's a film that can't be replicated in novels, music or painting. The editing has a perfect rhythm, turning the film into a series of sequences that effectively elicits a emotional response from the viewer. A filmmaker like Rohmer is just bland in comparison. He doesn't use the power of cinema to its fullest. He is just making filmed novels. Maybe it was interesting a couple decades ago, not anymore i'm afraid.

>>217141683>Film can obviously be transcendental but it is entertainment first and foremost.I agree, but to be /film/ is to be more than entertaining, hell, it might even be unnecesary for a /film/ film to be entertaining (Tarr).>>217141703I think the logic doesn't go that way, little pup.

Tarkovsky's Mirror is like a W.G. Sebald book
>>217142045You say that like it's a bad thing.
PROMETHEUS (1962)DP: Dariusz WolskiDirector: Ridley Scott
The key about Tarkovsky is he was a manlet. Small people try to create a big impact to create worship. It is all a scam. Bergman was over 6'4, his art was that of a tall man with little to prove. Tarkovsky lived to be worshipped, Bergman was non-pretentious. He even praised M Night Shyamalan toward the end of his life. It was Tarkovsky shit talking directors like that in all his books with his manlet rage.

>>217142626I have history with that photo. When I first saw it I felt a sublime attraction to it. You know when you see one of those photos that have a somewhat profound emotional impact on you for some inexplicable reason? Well, I had that photo open on my screen and I put on A Love Supreme. I listened to that whole record just staring at that photo as though the photo enhanced the music or the other way around. It was a transcendental feeling hitherto experienced and never again since.
