The 00's movies are pretty close to what the comic is character wise. It's a silly campy goofy campy. People don't want that, so fox tried to make stuff more serious. Disney did their best for a general audience. I think they should have leaned into the camp and fantasy more, but that's disney, afraid of turning people off.
