What was thoughts of people in theaters when Luke showed up on Crait? Here was my and collectively everyone else in the theaters watching at the time.

>oh yea here we go, Luke is here. He's gonna redeem himself, he's gonna take down the entire First Order and he's gonna turn Kylo Ren back to the light side. Star Wars is SAVED!

When it was revealed he was a force projection is when I knew the film was pretty much dead.

He was force projecting himself across the galaxy on Crait. His X-Wing was still in the bay.

God dam. yea I haven't see it since 2017. It absolutely killed Disney Star Wars for me. Like having Luke a nephew attempted murder is like absolute hearsay.
>>
>>217172412
The fact that you returned to the cinema to watch this filth after tfa means that you never knew or cared about star wars to begin with.
The fact you're still making threads about this shit, free advertising for nu wars, puts you on the same tier as mouse shills.
The world would be a better place if you didnt exist.

No, normal people only saw tlj once and that was it after seeing how badly they botched luke.

many of my favorite Youtuber's careers launched thanks to the rape of Star Wars by these movies

and they will last longer than Disney
>>
>>217173633
Disney was founded 103 years ago. You think those YouTubers can beat that?
>>
>>217173665
Walt Disney's Disney has nothing in common with currentday Jidsney.
When (((Eisner))) stole it in 2003 and eventually (((Iger))) backstabed him the old Disney was stone cold dead.

Youtubers will easily prevail 10 more years, Jidsney won't last for two.
>>
>>217173537
>What?
He literally tried to murder his nephew in his sleep, he pulls the building under them. Luke wakes up, the entire Jedi temple is destroyed and everyone killed except him. I shit you not, that is in the actual film.
>>
>>217173803
Iger is a puppet dou. He's a puppet of the CEO board. He's the one trying to put the foot down on all these stupid projects, but Kathleen Kennedy and Dave Faloni are the ones making all these stupid films, Kennedy, the ones who let these directors do "whatever they want."

The issue with Disney isn't corporate oversight, it's the opposite, There isn't enough, directors are doing whatever they want and contradicting the lore.
>>
>>217172412
I had pretty much the same reaction. It was like the last chance to maybe save this doomed series and then the force projection just sunk it for good.
>>
>>217172412
I've thought
>Okay, so it's the standard arc - the old mentor gives up, the young hero inspires him to pick up the sword again, and he comes to save the day. Not fully, but a little.
>WTF, he only came through a skype call?
>WTF, he's dead from this skype call?!

>Lel you guys will never win
What was the "fake" story anon? It was told three times.
>>
>When it was revealed he was a force projection
That was a really fucking weird moment. During the whole fight you're thinking they're probably gonna kill him off at the end. Then it's revealed he wasn't physically there so you think okay, they're not killing him off. But then he just drops dead anyway. What was the point of the projection if he still dies? He might as well actually have been there.
>>
>>217172412
>>oh yea here we go, Luke is here. He's gonna redeem himself, he's gonna take down the entire First Order and he's gonna turn Kylo Ren back to the light side. Star Wars is SAVED!
This was my exact reaction, but I knew something was off the moment he pulled out Anakin’s lightsaber instead of his own. In the following seconds I also noticed he was way too cleaned up to have come straight from the planet he was on before. Force projection never crossed my mind though, because why the fuck would it?
>>
>>217172412
I knew star wars was dead halfway into the force awakens. I have not seen any disney star wars shit apart from that one movie.
>>
>>217174391
If you had to fill in the holes, I guess you could assume he decided to help them, stop hiding and confront Ren, but he couldn't have physically made it there in time. Did the X-Wing still work? And I guess he died from exhaustion from force projecting so long. Or maybe force projection kills you, who knows.
>>
>>217174391
>But then he just drops dead anyway.
It subverted my expectations, let's just say not in a good way.

There is a huge story telling difference between an old wizard working himself to death with advanced, dangerous magic to save his apprentice and simply losing a sword fight to a guy who has been strongly telegraphed as not being all that good with a sword.

I liked this scene. It was a cool and clever move by Luke. If he would have been really there he would have had to kill his nephew because he was not going to turn him to the light.

People forget that Luke in this trilogy is not the protagonist, he is the old mentor character. Just like Obi-Wan in the OT.

If you want Luke to have a cool fight he should have had to fight Snoke and then sacrifice for the new protagonist (Rey) or save her and get injured or something like that. I always thought he was going to have a fight with Snoke, not Kylo.

Nope, Luke Skywalker would never kill his nephew. He would let his nephew kill him if that was the case.

So he wouldn't have been able to turn him to the light. At the end he didn't killed Kylo there and then Kylo turned to the light and helped Rey defeat The Emperor.

That would have unironically been better than what we got. I would have preferred seeing Luke bring down the Supremacy, Snoke’s mobile command center, with the force, over what we got in the Last Jedi.

Star Wars fans are lame as fuck and don't understand storytelling. I'm not saying that the movie is good, but it's not Luke's movie.
>>
>>217175903
The only reason Luke wasn't killed there was that Vader was his father and the father-son instinct was stronger than the darkside. Not the same case with his nephew that had already killed his own father.

>>

>If he would have been really there he would have had to kill his nephew because he was not going to turn him to the light
When I first watched it in theatres before the reveal I interpreted the scene of all the ATATs firing at him with no effect to mean Luke had become a force defenceCHAD and nothing Kylo could do would harm him. It would have really fucked with the perception that dark side = powerful.
But nah, he was just never there.
>>
>>217175929
>The only reason Luke wasn't killed there was that Vader was his father and the father-son instinct was stronger than the darkside. Not the same case with his nephew that had already killed his own father.
This is where your wrong retard. Han Solo was his biological father, but was a shit dead beat father. In the canon comics and books, Ben Solo is more or less adopted by Luke since Han and to a lesser extent Leia aren't around. Ben would have to kill Luke and than Leia, his mom. There is no universe in which I see him doing that. Epsically coming from someone like me, who is a mama's boy and was more or less raised solely by my mom as my father and mom were separated (legally married, lived separate) for most of my childhood till they got back together. That is literally what Ben dealt with.

>Rian Johnson dared to make a real movie in the franchise machine
Maybe... don't? If we're going to see an old comfort movie like Star Wars, it's because we want old comfort. If we want "I'M SO SMART, EXPECTATIONS SUBVERTED!" we'll go see another movie. Like if I went to McDonalds, yeah, I already know it's shit food, but it's because I'm in the mood for McDonalds. If I go to McDonalds and suddenly have a gourmet, five-star steak or whatever dropped in front of me, I'm gonna be disappointed because that's not what I wanted. That's not what I went there for. I don't care if the chef is happy, he's not making the food for himself.
>>
>>217175922

It should have been.

Kylo doesn't lie a single time throughout the movie, while Luke is shown to be extremely unreliable and misleading. If anything, Kylo's version of the story has more credibility than Luke's.

Besides, Luke's version is basically "yes I did it but then I kinda felt bad about it" which is way too far gone anyway.
>>
>>217176040
>If I go to McDonalds and suddenly have a gourmet, five-star steak or whatever dropped in front of me,
Now image you get a huge turd dumped all over it, that was the Last Jedi.
>>
>I wanted Luke to be the protagonist and go kill Snoke or Kylo and save the day!

Don't you realize that Rey is the protagonist and not Luke? Luke can't have a more important role in the story because then he would be the protagonist instead.
>>
>>217176040
It's empire strikes back except for all the characters know what happened in empire strikes back and RoTJ.
>>
>>217176087
>Besides, Luke's version is basically "yes I did it but then I kinda felt bad about it" which is way too far gone anyway.
Yes, which destroys Luke Skywalker as a character as a guy who had literally Hitler (Vader) under his sword and he refused to kill, but nope gotta kill my nephew because some visions or something (what if the visions were from Snoke?)
>>
>>217176125
>It's empire strikes back except for all the characters know what happened in empire strikes back and RoTJ.
Oh and Obi-wan, Yoda and Anakin do fuck all, except Yoda burning down some Jedi exists.
>>
>>217176128
>but nope, gotta kill my nephew that my sister and best friend entrusted to me to guide properly in the ways of the Jedi because I had some visions or something
It's even worse when you take into account his role as mentor and that Han and Leia entrusted their only son to him.
>>
>>217176117
>Don't you realize that Rey is the protagonist and not Luke? Luke can't have a more important role in the story because then he would be the protagonist instead.
Make him the protagonist and make Rey the protagonist in the final film. There is no reason they couldn't have done that.
>>
>>217176040

>>

Impossible to say.
>>
>>217176177
>You're not comparing TLJ to a five start gourmet meal, right?
God, no. But Rian Johnson THINKS he gave us a five star meal, so I was looking at it from his point of view.
>Who CARES if they just want a McDonalds cheeseburger? I'm going to give them a gourmet steak whether they like it or not!
>>
>>217176173
How do you do that? Luke makes all the important things in the first two movies and then dies fighting Snoke? And then Rey that has being a secondary character becomes the protagonist in the last one? I don't know, I don't remember that in any other trilogy. The protagonist gets developed as the main character since the beginning until the end.

>>
>>217176348
>Did you think he teleported?
I would have preferred that. They already completely destroyed the lore when the holdo maneuver happened. Might as well go all the way and just teleport people.
>>
Here's how they could've done basically the same "Ben turned because Luke had his saber out in his bedroom" backstory but had it not be total shit and ruin Luke's character:
>The movie as it is establishes Snoke can use the Force to project imagery and make people see shit.
>In this new version, establish that Ben has been troubled; not Dark Side troubled, but just troubled. Do this via an actual flashback scene where we show Luke trying to train Ben without much success.
>This has been on Luke's mind; he goes into Ben's tent to look him over in a "concerned parent/teacher" type way.
>When he steps into Ben's tent - Snoke is there, looming over the sleeping Ben.
>Luke understandably freaks out and activates his lightsaber, ready to defend his nephew from the Sith Lord (or whatever Snoke was).
>Snoke grins. He's played Luke. He fades away - He was never actually there.
>Ben wakes up. All he sees is Uncle Luke, his lightsaber out, ready to attack.
>Shit goes south.
Like Jesus fucking Christ, how hard was this? Like the guy who redeemed Space Hitler is gonna kill his sister's teenage son in his sleep cause maybe he might turn eventually potentially.
>>
>>217176504
10000 times better. That or literally have him brainwashed by Snoke and have an completely different childhood inserted into this memory like Darkseid with Superman.
>>
>>217172412
I just thought
>ugh that faggot Hamill
>>
>>217176348

You mean in the movie that featured Snoke essentially teleporting Kylo and Rey back and forth all willy-nilly? An ability that the next movie even doubled-down on? Yeah, maybe we did.

I was checked out well before that.
Something about the opening crawl felt bad. I immediately was on guard from that. Then Poe immediately does some weird unfunny mom joke.
