Nell Fisher isn't great. She has that nepo baby face and an extremely limited range because her pampered lifestyle means she's never experienced a strong range of emotions and most likely has a certain demeanor drilled into her from etiquette lessons. This becomes glaring when she's required to emote, be it yelling or trying to be emotional, and even when just delivering lines. She's the same age the kids were in Season 1 but looks like shes prepped for an Instagram photo or TikTok constantly. The other kids this season have no trouble making you believe they're children but she only gets by on her wardrobe & hair/makeup that makes her look more like a model than the 7-10 year old she's supposed to be. I have no doubt she'll be astroturfed for some time as her parents have the connections for auditions and money to pay her way in as producers but I don't see her ever reaching the heights of a truly memorable star. Instead I'm sure she'll flounder around for a year or two appearing in commercials and maybe one or two lighthearted dramas, maybe they'll pull out the famous: "girl has to live with her irresponsible but cool Dad" movie so many other young actresses have passed through or shove her in a Mark Wahlberg comedy. If she's very fortunate she'll land in a blockbuster like MBB did though that's less likely considering she won't quite have the hype behind her that she and Wolfhard did.

In about 3 or 4 years when she's just about or freshly turned 18 she'll do a series of risque photoshoots, and we'll see a couple years of articles with headlines saying "Nell Fisher INSERT ATTENTION GRABBING THING HERE" and perhaps she'll get paired up in a dumb celebrity relationship and either do a sex scene or star in a raunchy comedy, but after that I imagine she'll just float around going to Hollywood parties and spending her trustfund taking random roles here and there to replenish her fun money. I don't imagine we'll ever see a timeless performance from her.

Why does he HAVE to do it on the anniversary of the day he kidnapped Will? It's like they were going to do some kind of "it's during a total solar eclipse!" plotline but forgot to add that part in, and there were many opportunities: Not only was there a Total Solar Eclipse in 1987 there was also an annual solar eclipse, a Lunar Eclipse that lasted two days, they also discovered a Supernova that year. Imagine if they had made it so that the final battle/collapse of the Upside Down had resulted in Supernova 1987, that would have at least been kind of cool and tied it to a real life event from the year. There were also two meteor showers that year they could've used instead.

There was also a "mass meditation event" called Harmonic Convergence where a bunch of people meditated at the same time. They could've had Vecna exploit that for psychic energy to try to break the veil between worlds and if they wanted to use artistic license have that result in the supernova.

Objective ranking of the show:

Season 1 > Season 3 > Season 2 > Season 5 Vol. 1 > Season 4 > Season 5 Vol 2

Season 1 remains the GOAT. It has the most sincerity, sticks to the aesthetic the most faithfully, and the characters have the most depth and actually sound plausible in addition to being the most grounded season and feeling like it actually takes place in a small town in the Midwest and it plays into a lot of tried and true tropes (born hot yesterday love interest, I've got a girl in my room, disheveled sheriff with a dark past, sinister government laboratory, wholesome ragtag kids, etc) A big part of this is probably because they stole most of it from the guy doing the Montauk Project. 9/10

Season 3 despite being hated here is a high point for me: it's a course correction from Season 2's meandering, the aesthetic and costumes are top tier, we actually get the cast mostly together all season and some teenaged hormones as well as Dustin and Steve being at their high point for their dynamic duo, and the mall is honestly a fun setting. We also get more Billy and a really sinister villain that hinted at heights and payoff that sadly never came. Erica and Robin while annoying signs of problems to come were mostly fun additions that could've been forgiven had they been one off one season wonders and future seasons returned to focusing on the main cast. Hopper and Joyce had a fun sidequest even if ultimately the Russian plotline ended up being a misstep and despite Murray being retroactively insufferable due to his Zionist actor it was fun watching he and Alexei become friends this season. Hopper beating up the mayor and being an angey Dad was fun as well. Only downsides are Will's very sidelined with an annoying subplot this season (that really doesn't make sense considering they all join Hellfire next season), Nancy was a bit insufferable this season, the writers began torpedoing her and Jonathan's relationship, there was no reason to send the Byers plus El to California, and Robin unexpectedly being a giant dyke for no reason at all. Also Hopper should've either stayed dead or at the very least they should've let us believe he was between seasons because spoiling that at the end took a lot of wind out of the season's sails. 8/10

Season 2. Where to begin? A weird and out of place beginning segues into a fun arcade scene and a first episode that might update us on all the characters but ultimately feels rather blah. The season had some highlights (introducing Max and Billy, Dart, Dustin and Steve's newfound friendship, Dustin and Nancy's dance, Eleven finding her Mother) but ultimately a lot of the season jaut meanders and the episodes don't really stand up on their own on an episode to episode comparison. There's never a big wow moment for this season outside of the tease of the Mind Flayer at the very end and when it first possesses Will. It did set up a lot of potential that never paid off, and I was sad to see Bob go but other than that there were a lot of problems. The season feels like it's always waiting to start because we're waiting for El to reunite with the cast, We start getting girl boss problems, Will gets sidelined with nothing to do, the Demo dogs feel like a massive downgrade from the Demogorgon who is sorely missed this season, the forced blackening of the new girl, and the Nancy live triangle doesn't make any sense and just wastes screen time that could've better been used on other things, triply so for the obnoxious sister episode. 6/10.

Season 5 Vol 1. While very stupid is at least slightly more entertaining than Season 4. We get a lot of dumb moments but thankfully the plot holes don't really kick in until the next half. Biggest downside is seeing 8 return after they wrote her off in shame in seasons 3 & 4.

Season 4. What even happened. The episodes are too long, Vecna's backstory and retcons are stupid. We don't get enough of the lynchmob subplot and we don't see El integrates into tbe Byers family. Eddie while an alright new character is ultimately needless and wouldve better served as a plot for Will. The plotnisntoo global and takes us completely out of the small town vibe, Jonathan and Will are sidelined all season and once again El is separated from the whole cast for the whole season. Ultimately it's a longer and messier version of Season 2 thankfully without the sister nonsense.

Season 5 Vol 2 just complete garbage.

A woman wasn't promoted to the rank of General in the United States of America's military until 1970 and even then she was a nurse and it was mostly an honorary title. I'm curious how they came to this conclusion that Ted is a useless POS. Ted did just as much for his family as Karen throughout the show (more if you consider the fact that he was the breadwinner, and apparently did a good job at it, since the Wheelers were pretty clearly one of the wealthier families in the area, and certainly were among Mike's friend group), and was never shown to have even consider cheating on his wife (in fact while Karen was considering fucking a barely legal dude she met at the pool, Ted was napping with their daughter). Very true, especially the score by Michael Stein and Kyle Dixon. You can just take a look at the popular songs of the score, only two from season four where one "Teens" is just a version of "Kids". I don't even remember the other one (number 9) The songs from season three, Starcourt and "The first I love you" I know exactly what scene it is from. After season three they abandoned the synthwave in the score and started to reuse previous melodies. My main issue with the score as a whole is that the Duffer Brothers have John Carpenter as an important source of inspiration and the composers can create memorable melodies and can even sound exactly like music by Carpenter, but the show is too reliant on nostalgia and pop music that the score never takes center stage like in a Carpenter kino like Escape from NY.

No. I could maybe see a show trying it at some point especially after Taylor Swift did that secret second half of her album drop at 3 AM the day after her album came out, BUT I doubt that they would make it so ambiguous. Like, if they ever actually did it I think they would have made the Finale a regular length episode and then the secret episode ends up being 2 hours long. There's no way they would do a 2 hour episode with expensive CGI then say psych! and release another 2-3 hour episode with even more CGI. Maybe if it was like back in the 90's-00's and they just had Buffy or Smallville esque special effects I could buy that, but not for this, especially with the theater tie in. It just doesn't pass the smell test as Argyle would say.

It would be cool, especially since the finale sucked but I honestly dont see how they could salvage it. Maybe, MAYBE if it was around 120-160 minutes and they just treated it like 3-4 regular episodes supercut together like an old TV show "movie" back in the day would do then I could see them getting the plot development they need but otherwise I don't see how they could dig themselves out of the hole. They would have to spend X amount of time getting into the episode, Y amount on the reveal, Z amount on waking everyone up, A amount on figuring out how to actually beat Vecna, B amount on actually beating him, and C amount on the aftermath. The whole of the finale was just the B and C let alone everything else (though they probably could do it if they went the four regular episodes stitched together route.)

The main thing that seals it for me, though, is just looking at the rest of the season. It was a horrible season filled with terrible writing. I don't think anyone who could write episodes 1-8 of season five would be the person to realize it was bad and then do a secret episode to save it. I just really don't. Especially since they could've just done a good season from the get go.

One, possibly final plot hole. If Eleven wasn't dead why wouldn't she just contact them in their minds? Regardless on if she's in the Upside Down, Abyss, or Hawkins (I'm not going to call it the Rightside Up) she can just reach out to them in that black void in their minds and literally no one would ever know. She could even wait a few weeks or so until after they've mourned her and the trail has gone cold then do it.

If she hasn't reached out to any of them then she must be dead.

Also LOL at Mike's showcasing his "master storyteller" skills, he just told them what they were all actually doing and even his quest was kind of a rip off of Eddie's campaign.

Character actions are almost never plot holes, but what happens to them can be. Brenner surviving a demogorgon mauling him when none of the other government agents survived the exact same thing is contrived. It happened because the writers wanted it to happen, not because it made sense for it to happen. It's not technically a plothole because it's not big enough to "break" the story, but we call things that dont make sense plotholes because it's the easiest way to describe it without getting into semantics
