This movie was so reddit. Absolute self falating fantasy
>what if I was so frickin smart (even though I have no qaulifications or real proof of this) the CIA and all these data companies will literally try to suck my dick for a job. But i'm too wicked messed up and working class to accept it until this smart broad (not as smart as me) falls in love with me and I'm like damn okay. And i embarass all the smart guys at college because I'm so much smarter than them

My boy Anon is wicked smaht
>>
>>217178758
isn't the moral of the story that he isn't as smart as he thinks?
but yeah, it's a bit of a normalfag feelgood movie.
>>
>>217178758
Of course that's your contention
>>
>>217178758
the genius stuff is a metaphor for untapped potential because its a coming of age story. but yes there is a bit of self indulgence in a few scenes
>>
>>217178758
>I read alot of books
>that means im smart
>>
>>217178758
>>217179923
You can call it shitty writing for the story to focus around intelligence but an autodidact, someone who can understand advanced mathematics with just a library card, is unquestionably smart.
>>
>>217180234
Bitch about that spam all you want but I have never seen this thread before and you sound like a faggot assblasted to oblivion lashing out at the world.

you have allowed him to break your mind
>>

no one is disputing the character is smart because the character is written to be "wicked smart". It's fiction, you retard. The issue is about portrayal on the writer's part

Okay than what was your point
>someone who can understand advanced mathematics with just a library card, is unquestionably smart.
Okay? Is this just a completely redundant statement if his smarts isn't being disputed? Genuinely what point were you trying to make that I so clearly missed.
>>217180730
cause I started from the bottom of the thread
>>
Math is a skill some may be more inclined towards but to say he's smart because he knows math is like saying some is smart because they can play video games well
>>
>>217182692
ok Timmy

He was thinking it
>>
my boy's wicked smaht
>>
fuck math. math people just have the ability to mentally visualize. if you have aphantasia, like me, you just can't do math. it's a gatekept subject, yet math whizzes think it's LE SMART SKILL when it's not.
>>
>>217184438
>if you have aphantasia, like me, you just can't do math
you're just stupid
>>
>>217179670
he so smart it backfires and he's an autistic sperg and it takes his dumb(but actually straight forward smart) friend telling him to get his head out of his ass and go for the girl
>>
>>217182692
Pattern recognition = smart. IQ is very predictive of success no matter what goldbergstein says
>>
>>217178758
>Damn my best friend you are so wicked smart it would be the best thing ever if you left and I never saw you again because that's how being friends works.
Yeah the entire movie was just jerking off Matt Damon's character.
>>
>>217178758
Yeah it's a pretty stupid story. If it was made today Will Hunting would be black and the explanation they'd use for him working as a janitor would be "systemic racism", they'd show a bunch of denial letters from Universities and jobs. I remember they did this in the movie Nothing to Lose, Martin Lawrence's character was an Einstein-level genius but was never allowed to go to college or get a job because he was black, so he got forced into a life of crime.
>>
>>217184862
>The best part of my day is hoping you won't be there to answer the door
That line was gay and retarded, but the rest of the movie was good.
>>
>>217179670
His book smarts are supreme and unchallenged and presented in a very smug manner throughout the entire movie. But he makes poor life choices because of psychological damage, that's his "dumb" side.
>>
>>217178758
Stop trying to discredit Matt Damon's self-insert

No, it wasn't he was Irish and molested by his dad. He was Dealt a bad hand.

Americans lap this shit up. Good Will Hunting is juvenile fantasy with sappy melodrama slapped on top. It's no surprise all they make is capeslop now, because that's all GWH was while pretending to be high art.
