What I dont like about this show is that it tries to be funny and quirky but it isn't, the MC is boring, they wrote her as le cute quirky innocent girl that is supposed to disarm eveyr tense and dangerous situation by lecturing the bad guys on that violence is bad, it ruins the whole scene for me, and its not even funny which was the point, the jokes are your standard bland safe comedy jokes about being shot in the ass. What annoys me about the show is the problem that plagues every adaption in current year. They don't take anything seriously. Except their own little OCs.

The Legion are a joke, the NCR are a joke, House is a joke, the Khans are a joke, the BOS is a joke. Everything exists to be made fun of by epic witty self-insert Lucy, or dominated by epic badass self-insert Ghoul. They just turned the games into another "deconstruction of the genre" except the writers never played any games, so they don't even know what they're deconstructing.

Obviously Fallout had a ton of jokes as well. But it also knew when to take things seriously. The Legion were a bunch of morons who didn't understand Roman theology but they were also a legitimate threat to the entire Mojave. They weren't just "lmao chuds larping in roman armour." The NCR almost got their shit pushed in. There were real stakes. It feels like this show is just Hollywood shitting on games because they have terminal Roger Ebert syndrome, instead of them making jokes about a setting they're fans of.

They never touched those games. I won't pretend I'm some old wizard that played the originals way back in the 90s. I only played Fallout 1 and 2 last year but it was important to me to play those games in order to consider myself a fan. Because when you do play them, it becomes quite evident how the developers illustrated the tone and bleak atmosphere of the game's irradiated hellscape. And it worked because they weren't going for broad appeal, they were just guys that knew someone out there would appreciate the amount of detail and complexity they woven into it.

Todd Howard and Jonathan Nolan don't know it because they didn't build it. They have a very surface level interpretation of the world. But it's just enough because they know how to package that to the masses. That's why this show will always be narratively poor on substance, lacking in any sincerity or thematic depth, and filled with continuity errors and missteps. Because it's dorky to care that much.

Issue with Lanius was that he was a complete psychopath and didn't care at all how many people on his own side died, while also being a very "direct" thinker, and so is more given to straight up human wave tactics than to more subtle, potentially less costly strategies. Even if a big corporation buys/licenses something, they often have to pay royalties to the estate of the original creator at the very least, and that's money they don't want to lose
So they'll make a shit remake or reboot or sequel, whatever, even knowing it's shit because it'll appear first in the search bar due to recency bias
