this poster is very deceptive. andrew whatever his name is looks like a nerdy doofus with too much hair and small face but this poster somehow transformed him into some kind of charismatic model. doesn't look like him at all. whatsoever.

>Creates dogshit bad faith thread
>"NOOOOO YOU SHOULD ENGAGE MY BAD FAITH THREAD WITH GOOD FAITH!"
You tried.

I feel like I understand perfectly who this movie is "for", aimless 20-somethings trying to make sense out of the pop culture detritus they've assigned mystical qualities and value to for most of their lives, finding out how to "save the girl" or "finding the treasure" but not seeing how the pieces fit together with the real world. A less pessimistic take on this is ready player one, an older take is don quijote. The composer is the key figure if you want to understand the movie in the sense that he's the originator of all these good things but simultaenously a mystery and his creative inspirations beyond the protagonist's reach, the simple lesson being this: being enamoured with these things is a far cry from being aligned with the temperament that allows for their creation. The "monstrosity" of the composer is simply the experience of seeing creativity from this conspiratorial viewpoint, a temperament which is ultimately neutered and not conducive to having a good life

You're completely right, I didn't know Garfield was in this for years until I saw a clip of the movie. I wonder why they did that

I liked it. It's for losers who think they have a special purpose in their lives, but they just need to find it. You could say the point of the movie is there is no point, but I'd say it's that you need realize you aren't special and make something of yourself before you spiral.

>>217191740
He didn’t seem to be a loser, at least before he quit his job. Silver Lake is a pricey trendy neighborhood.
>>
>>217191890
He was in the process of being evicted and wasn't looking for a job.
>>
>>217191917
Yeah but he had been successful enough to get the apartment in the first place

My interpenetration is that he was not literally killing women but personifying dogs as women subconsciously because he links dogs to his ex-girlfriend, and it's really a breakup movie where he's refuses to confront the reality of the breakup. Everything in the film is about the noir conspiracy except the billboard with his ex on it, the scene where he bumps into her and the dog-killing itself. The entire film is a distraction from the otherwise obvious fact that we are following a psychopath who is killing dogs because he can't get over his girlfriend

>it's really a breakup movie where he's refuses to confront the reality of the breakup
Everything else is up to be interpreted, whether he is killing women or dogs or none at all, the grand conspiracy actually existing. But that part is the truth.
