As someone with difficulty trusting/being comfortable around people the episodes feel less about world domination and more about the struggle to open up to others, allowing yourself to be vulnerable as well as rejecting happiness that comes with it. I won't say it moves me to tears but I look at Carol, Manousos rejecting others and clinging to their... separateness so strongly. At first I thought they weren't taken into the collective because of some trauma that caused them to reject the unity but other characters don't fit that explanation (and the girl who willingly joins the many is a very explicit inversion)

Maybe the first book being the most fragmented and vignette-like would be a challenge, but the later stories are much more well rounded structurally and have enough going on to be translated to the screen with only minor tweaking. I think it would have to be done with a 1940s retrofuturistic aesthetic though, which no studio these days would be able to do right anyway.

There is no way that the show will wrap up with scientific rigour because it has already been inconsistent. It tricks you into thinking it has a deep scientific lore with the idea of synthesising a virus from a transmitted RNA sequence, but this would only make sense if Earth's biology had been studied by the aliens prior to creating the signal. That theory doesn't work because of when they said that the signal may have been transmitting since before humanity's existence. The only way it works rigorously is if either the aliens came to Earth to study specimens or if life in the universe began elsewhere and Earth's biology was descended from an alien race, hence the compatibility. Those just don't seem like the conclusion that will be drawn seeing as this was already glossed over in the first season. It would also be possible that alien telescopes could analyse Earth's atmosphere to backwards engineer the RNA codes but that seems even more fanciful.Also you can consider that it's just not possible for an RNA program to give people telekinesis even via radio waves.When the plurbs are trying to be convincing they are creepy and that's for the show. The plurb behaviours are inconsistent based on what Gillian wanted the audience to feel.Sorry guys but this is just a fun show for midwits to follow along with and really it's about internal conflict and a strange lesbian romance and childhood trauma - it's not about le science (bitch) and you will be disappointed if you're expecting a science based payoff.
