They need to learn that if they want new viewers to pay attention or for old viewers to come back they need to do something a bit different from bunch of grubby rebels (again) or clone wars (again). A House of Cards style drama set during the early years of the senate with JarJar as the Kevin Spacey character would be different, eye-catching, and show people the franchise can do more than just lightsaber fights.

The sibling reveal would have certainly felt like classic Star Wars, and I think there is merit to tying the show into the broader themes and motifs of Star Wars, but I also think the show dropping the plotline emphasizes the theme of identity melting away and losing yourself to a cause. Cass’s journey starts because he looks for his sister, and by the end he’s given himself so fully to the rebellion, he doesn’t even think about her.
