The Fellowship was reasonably faithful to the novel, about as much as you could hope. Usually in that film the action scenes corresponded to action scenes in the source material. In ROTK Jackson went wild with his technological toys and fabricated new actions scenes for his Hollywood theme park ride. Constant action, constant battles. The book isn't like that.
