>>217213042I never read the manga but thought that the anime's plot was pretty coherent with no particular holes to it. >30 years ago Tokyo blew up when Akira ascended as a higher lifeform. The movie is set in a near-futuristic dystopia where delinquent motorcycle gangs are running the streets and the government is secretly trying to recreate Akira.>The main character is Kaneda, the leader of the motor cycle gang and his orphan sidekick Tetsuo, a bitchy little fag that never measures up and is the whipping boy for the gang. >One of the test subjects breaks out of the government facility, gets caught with Tetsuo and they both get brought back. Tetsuo turns out is compatible with the Akira, I dunno, gene therapy or whatever, and manifests stronger than the other kids. It ends up being too much power, and he escapes and slowly loses control over it while he bullies everyone that mistreated him.>The kids all confront Tetsuo, summon Akira who ascends with Tetsuo and blows up Neo-Tokyo the way Akira did back with original Tokyo.
