My logic for being excited about something like this coming up is: Is it going to be better? If there is no chance, don't do it.Like, after the first Spiderman movie, could the second one be better? Sure, it could be better, worse, about even, but there is room to improve, so it justifies the sequel, even if it fails (like Spiderman 3, which COULD be better than 1 and 2, though it isn't). People were skeptical of Mad Max Fury Road because it had to top the Gibson movies. But the tech advanced, the script and action were good and so it worked, many consider it better, a good addition to the franchise.Now, can you imagine 10 years from now someone saying "I love Hunt for Gollum, it's my favorite LotR film! So much better than the original ones! McKellen's Gandalf is awesome in it!" I absolutely can't. In the best possible scenario it will be a 7/10 movie that people will say doesn't hurt the quality of the originals.
