why do people hate this movie? I thought it was great
>>
>>217225370
I thought it was a hit when it came out. Did people suddenly pretend they don't like it anymore? I'm out of the loop.

I can't stand Pitt's pouty fag face and girly hair. Never seen the movie but every time I see the poster I'm instantly put off.
>>
>>217225370
It's entertaining, but it was never really praised. I remember even my normie friends and family thought it was sorta mid and the achilles performance was just serviceable.

Peak Pitt but otherwise pretty lame.
>>
Perfectly fine movie. Kino for me. In ant case there is quite literally nothing to dislike. Did very well at the box office too. Everything else is just retarded closeted critics with a hateboner for Pitt and zoomer revisionism.

Shut up faggot. The movie is great.

it's becoming tiresome.
terrible terrible lack of idea.

I like it fuck the reviewercels
>>
>>217225370
It's good for what it is. Got tired fast of that era of entertainment being obsessed with demystifying mythical stories.
And we aren't out of it yet judging by the shit Nolan is cooking
>>
it's ok but I turn 360 degrees and walk away after Priam gets Hector's body, final act is shit
also I hate the depiction of Ajax(not the actor)
>>
>>217225370
too many big profile actors.
It was always just brad pitt and orlando bloom saying lines, I never bought into their characters, it felt hollywood bland.
and apart from a few good scenes its very tedious and boring.

Love this movie. I always quote this scene. Whenever someone in traffic does something that almost kills them, like swerving across 5 lanes to make their exit, I just mutter under my breath
>the man wants to die
In the same tone and inflection
>>
It's fine, but I didn't really care for much of the casting or how events in the story were portrayed in the movie. I think Pitt is overrated, Bloom was terrible, Ajax's portrayal sucked, no Diomedes
>>
I will allways have blue balls for an Odyssey movie with actual mythology starring Sean Bean's Odysseus.

Nolan making that cringe shit is salt in the wound
>>

It’s very quotable

I loved it even after i left the theatre in 2004.

I had some minor gripes about not properly addressing the gods and mythology enough but the Hector vs Achilles fight is sonperfect i forgave the movie

a solid and entertainment movie,I give it a 07/10
too bad they didn't have all of the dialogue in ancient greek
I'd give the upcoming Nolan's turd if its dialogue was in greek

you have reading comprehension problem.
i don't despise Homer.
let me rephrase it for your little brain:

dialog with Achilles 1: if you don't fight, you won't be remembered.
dialog with Achilles 2: if you don't fight, you won't be remembered.
dialog with Achilles 3: if you don't fight, you won't be remembered.
dialog with Achilles 4: if you don't fight, you won't be remembered.

and yes, it's tiresome.

I'd be mad if my twink slave got murdered but draggin the corpse around the city walls and then raping the corpse is a little uncalled for

Brad Pitt was horribly casted as Achilles. Other than that it’s a pretty decent movie.

>>
It's a weak 6/10 movie. The actors looks like modern actors which they are and not like ancient people (Pitt specially). It's corny as fuck too.
>>
>>217228430
I would accept Achilles being depicted as a faggot if the scene where he falls in love with the amazon bitch AFTER already killing her made it in.
>>
>>217225370
I think it has issues in its supporting cast. Too many boomers, Peter O'toole, Julian Glover and like 4 others, very dry performances from them.
>>
>>217231960
This. I would say that their barometer is misaligned to objective quality because they also simply do not watch movies made before 2000. Even before 2010 is pushing it. They literally don't know how good movies can be, so they consider average movies great.
>>
>>217225370
Why does an adaptation of the Iliad not have the greek gods? Why was Achilles present during the start of the invasion of Troy? In reality he spent the first several years of the war hiding away on an island, crossdressing and LARPing as a woman.
>>
>>217225370
It was a throwback to the epics of the 50s and 60s with an all-star cast and lots of melodrama, so it divided the audiences of 2004. Still, most people seemed to like it.

>why do people hate this movie? I thought it was great

Greek here. We don't hate it. Well we did initially when it came out, but it was because of this movie, with Brad Pitt being a blonde muscular god + the German whore being a blonde sexy goddess, that people started associating this look with the Greek people, when nothing could be further from the truth. This movie probably did more for our tourism industry than anything our dogshit government could ever imagine, because deluded foreigners thought we all looked like Brad Pitt/Dianne Kruger. Before this movie, I know a lot of Americans didn't consider us white, and now they do. Feels good man.

>pic related is your typical Greek
>>
>>217232495
>The actors looks like modern actors which they are and not like ancient people (Pitt specially).

How could they have looked like ancient people?
>>
>>217225370
It feels/looks too Hollywood for its own good, like you're watching a stage play version of Troy which does not seem to be what they were going for. Pitt & Orlando Bloom are noticeably terrible.

>>
>>217225370

>>
>>217225370
One of cases where theatrical cut is mid but director's cut is better. More people have seen the tc than the dc.
>>
>>217233517
What's so special about the director's cut?
>>
>>217231881
Idk why Diane Kruger gets shit on. She is a solid 8/10 in this movie.

And i am pretty sure Eva Green and Mary Elizabeth Winstead (true 10/10s) were too young when this came out
>>
>>217232703
But weren't the principals & founders of the Trojan War and Greece in general actual blonde/blue Aryans? Historically, those have been people of moment and prominence, while the swarthy folk were just the rabble. At least in (ancient) Europe.
>>
>>217233573
way gorier
>>
>>217225370
literally one of my favourite movies. people complain about no muh gods, but that would make this a completely different movie and is just way harder to make serious and cool. more often than not you would end up with shit like the cgi clash of the titan
>>
>>217232463
he got to hang out with brad pitt for a day or two, that's probably a cool thing to tell your friends.

It's my go to example of good sci-fi on zero budget, along with Primer. It was written by an original Star Trek writter in the 60s, his friends got it made shortly after his death. It's free on YouTube, check it out.
