Instead of stale biopics about musicians and athletes we need more movies and shows about the Antarctic Heroic Age.There are hundreds of books and documentaries but only a couple movies and two miniseries. And out of all that the two I'd called actually good are just Scott of the Antarctic and Shackleton from 2002.
With so many people obsessing over these stories, really just the best stories in history, you'd think there was more than just documentaries.
But please no more Shackleslop it's been done to death unless it's about the Ross Sea Party (ignored to protect Shackleton's images). Terra Nova is long overdue for an accurate adaptation not that bullshit from the 80s series.
>>
Actually better don't do Terra Nova yet or it will have the bullshit about Teddy Evans sabotaging Scott which gets repeated by everyone now despite evidence against it.

Jeannette Expedition
>>
i have never met anyone who "obsesses" over those stories, i dont think any normie wants to see snow on his screen for 2 hours.
there are dozens of low hanging fruit historical epics/movies that could be made but they don't get made for multiple reasons.

I'm more worried that they would base it on Roland Huntford's anti Scott drivel
>>
>>217226026
Mawson's desperate struggle for survival after losing his two comrades would be a great movie, not to mention that he, and those who stayed behind to look for him, got stuck with an actual schizo (Jeffryes) for a full year before another ship could come to pick them up.

Because every country on earth has a treaty to keep everyone out of Antarctica snd dissappear anyone who gets too close to certain places.
Like the grand canyon...for some reason.
No one talks about Antarctica anymore because it would invite too much curiosity.

No. Im not making it up. This is very real.

He wasn't there, he got the men under his command out and that was extremely impressive.

He wasn't there but he chose the wrong man in charge, he left Aurora without sufficient provisions hoping that they'll think of something (remember he relied on these men's success) and didn't send a telegraph telling them that he would not be attempting the crossing during the first sledging season and he could've, This forced Mackintosh to force the march immediatelly. Shackleton did make mistakes and that's why the RSP is ommitted from movies and documentaries. Even though it's perfect ending because when Shackleton rescues them it's the last time he stands on the Antarctic continent and it's the only time two legs of the expeidition meet except from the opposite end than expected.

The other members of the expedition would have been completely justified in beating him to death after the shit he kept trying to pull.

You mean when the Endurance was stuck in the ice?
The radio barely worked.

I really don't care about the youtube videos (Geno Samuel fucked it up by believing Turney's anti-Teddy bias). I've been reading on the Heroic Age since pre-school and I noticed there are more books and more people talking about it. The peak was a few years ago but it's still a popular subject. I'm not even a Brit and i see more people getting into this.

Before Endurance was stuck in the ice they were in Argentina and then South Georgia.
And to my knowledge they had no wireless on Endurance there was on Aurora though obviously since Mawson's expedition which established the connection with Maquarie Island.

Huntford's bullshit is mostly dead. It's really just for boomers who remember the anti-imperial sentiments from the 70s and 80s.
People who aren't fans of the Heroic Age will never know how much this single disgusting piece of fucking shit nearly ruined the entire historiography. So much shit which he invented. Literally, pulled it out of his ass because he projected some lpersonal obsessions on a long dead explorer. It's psychotic. Also back in the day they really just confused gay headcanons for facts. "Markham was gay for Scott because I said so."
But I think with more honest biographies like David Crane's and more people becoming interested in the story, things are better now.
Of course you still have wannabe Huntfords. The baseless attacks on Teddy Evans in recent years (which people ate up for sensationalizm and because it helps Scott) and David Day accusing Mawson of murder, cannibalism and everything else that people are ignoring now. Things are slightly better than they used to be.
Shackletonmania is still annoying though. Million documentaries on the same shit that don't give us anything new. Just adventure seekers who want to recreate the journey for the 300th time. Still nothing on the Ross Sea Party I wonder why.

Congrats forr getting Amundsen killed.
I meant I know he did it himself but man what a stupid situation. The Italia expedition ws stupid and Amundsen's death was stupid. Hilarious shitshow.

also, there's this Frank Capra adventure flick, that must've been based on the same story

I like the age of zeppelins and yes Norge was the first to reach the North Pole. Cook, Peary and Byrd all lied this is beyond doubt now.
