The Japanese are the least humorous people on the planet, they've never made anything that's genuinely funny, in any medium, ever. Japanese people are incredibly autistic, so whatever is supposed to be funny is deeply exaggerated and clearly pointed out to make sure everyone knows it's a joke (hurrrr I hit you with the paper fan baka!). This creates the opposite reaction for anyone who isn't autistic, making it an incredibly unfunny and painful experience. Even in Japanese works I like generally, the humor is always terrible to the point of being distracting.

My hotel in Japan had this giant luxury soak tub with a TV attached, and while enjoying a bath I'd flip through the channels and nearly every fucking channel, from cooking to news to book reviews and interviews, had some sort of social media panel of viewers just giving their opinions and interjections at random, from the top right corner. It was surreal. I think the only channel without it was the news.
