Then at the end she deludes herself into thinking she was right all along anyway and burns the last bridge to home by having her book series end with the death of the guy character. The girl she tells to stay in small town nowhere is her pulling up the ladder for malicious reasons even if perhaps one could see it as a saving grace to not follow her path. The alcoholism is spot on to women like her in real life.
