By which I mean, as good as the original. It ultimately got boggled down by some bloated bullshit and the decision to film it together with part 3 as one big supermovie robbed it of any sense of conclusiveness and individuality. It was just part 1/2. It could have easily been a great self-contained story if you trim all the fat and put in its place the very few actually story relevant moments that got moved to part 3.Part 3 is just a mess.Obviously, both of these films are much better than all the slop that followed but we shouldn't use that as a measuring device.

Then you combine the second half of 2 with 3 and that's when you trim the fat (mostly 3).
