Cucksta is an older poster and the thread has been good historically despite him being in it so he's not a death touch to /film/, just an annoying sperg like lil shitler was. the new guys are genuinely the worst posters ever and tanked the quality instantly. and birkin is not new but has gotten way more mentally ill over time, he used to be a harmless autist but not now.

Twinless > One Battle After Another
James Sweeney’s bromance asserted gender and romantic differences (not diversity) as the basis of our emotional common ground, from grief to friendship and big-L love — the most profound rom-com since Lubitsch’s That Uncertain Feeling. Paul Thomas Anderson’s shallow political farce was the unpopular — but media-favored — flick that mocked unresolved racism and sexism as the justification for civil war.

An Officer and a Spy > It Was Just an Accident
Roman Polanski’s take on the Dreyfus affair finally opened in the U.S. in time to examine rising anti-Jewish bigotry. Jean Dujardin’s commanding performance reveals complex personal integrity without the leaden ironies of Jafar Panahi’s Iranian thriller geared to self-righteous political paranoia.

Song Sung Blue > Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere
Craig Brewer finds the spiritual center of Neil Diamond’s music in the true-life tale of working-class showbiz professionals played by Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson. It shames the narcissism and phony Americana of Scott Cooper’s biopic about the country’s phoniest rock star.

Nouvelle Vague > Jay Kelly
Richard Linklater redeems his indie banality through sheer inspiration and admiration. The making of Godard’s Breathless gets deeper inside the art of filmmaking than Noah Baumbach’s trite, never-convincing imitation of Fellini’s 8½.

The Phoenician Scheme > Sentimental Value and Sirât
Wes Anderson’s rococo psychological mirth is appropriate for his great-man theory of history — a Wellesian ploy about how the world works that outclasses both Joachim Trier’s art-movie fakery and the overwrought techno display of Oliver Laxe’s globalist nihilism-adventure film.

>When Kim Novak fell in love with black entertainer Sammy Davis Jr. in 1957 while making Pal Joey, head of Columbia Harry Cohn ordered a Mob hit on Davis unless he left Novak and immediately married a black woman. Arthur Silber Jr., Davis' best friend and business partner, told Vanity Fair that Davis paid an African-American woman to marry him within hours.
Why not just kill him? is because he became jewish?

The Empire > Weapons
Bruno Dumont counters Star Wars juvenilia with an adult eschatological perspective, a heaven-and-earth contrast that is morally piercing and visually amazing, while Zach Cregger taunts social collapse — sex, drugs, schools, parenting — as an occult game.

A Minecraft Movie > Sinners
Jared Hess makes the best-yet video game adaptation, blooming with childhood’s delight. But Ryan Coogler’s childish approach to black American culture — this time as a vampire rampage — insults authentic blues heritage while delighting only Obama-addled libs.

Eat the Night > Marty Supreme
Caroline Poggi and Jonathan Vinel capture the excitement and dread of role-playing by tech-addicted siblings, a perfect contrast to the criminal deception that Josh Safdie celebrates in an ugly biography of a ping-pong champion (Timothée Chalamet) who exploits everyone he encounters. Moral hunger versus moral bankruptcy.

Marcello Mio and The President’s Wife > Hamnet
Catherine Deneuve brings iconic grace to two portraits by, respectively, Christophe Honoré and Léa Domenach of real-life women (herself and Bernadette Chirac) as influential public figures. But Chloe Zhao’s silly, occult biopic of Mrs. Shakespeare fakes female agency merely to steal glory from the dead white male bard.

Auction > When Fall Is Coming > Misericordia
Pascal Bonitzer, François Ozon, and Alain Guiraudie prove it was such a good year for the French (unlike this bad year for Hollywood) that comparing and contrasting three movies about tradition, accountability, and eccentricity measures how a culture understands itself the essence of filmmaking on a sliding scale

Eephus > Train Dreams
Carson Lund laments a season of sports tradition while Clint Bentley mourns a long, wasted life: an authentic melancholic vision versus a pseudo art-flick exercise. Both show the effect of filmmakers unable to shake the trend toward America’s fading identity
>>
>>217234205
I almost respect the sheer ego he must have to make a list like this every year for a subjective art form
>>
>>217234205
We don't support Pollanski pedoshit here nigga yeah Avengers is more /film/ than that dirty ahh pedo.
>>
>>217234230

Wild Diamond > If I Had Legs I’d Kick You
Agathe Riedinger’s trenchant portrait of a FOMO-obsessed teen Liane (Malou Khebizi) is more recognizable and universal than Mary Bronstein’s self-pitying almost-comedy about a middle-class American Karen.

Demons at Dawn > The Secret Agent
Julián Hernández expands the rom-com genre to illustrate that Millennial movies lack romance as a consequence of politicized sexuality that twists and defies natural identity. Kleber Mendonça Filho confuses genre tropes to distort Brazil’s guilt-ridden political past.

When Fall Is Coming > Eddington
François Ozon revisits the family secrets of a matriarch (Hélène Vincent) to reveal bonds of love, remorse, and forgiveness. Ari Aster’s parallel horror-flick approach — this time spooking the Covidapocalypse — makes remorse impossible, turning recent political history and panic into a disingenuous mess.

Happy Gilmore 2 > One Battle After Another
Kyle Newacheck directed Adam Sandler’s vision of American harmony-among-many — a golf-farce tournament played against the violent conflict of political adversaries. Sandler’s good humor opposed P.T.A.’s unbearable partisan vengeance.

Dracula > Frankenstein
Radu Jude misses when he targets conservative American politics, but at least his over-amped cultural metaphor recognizes there’s something monstrous afoot in this millennium’s embrace of socialist trauma whereas Guillermo del Toro’s sentimental metaphor for the Munchausen-by-proxy trans movement offers a contradiction in terms. Clever versus Unacceptable.

Armond is the average /film/pseud, he even loves PWSA.
>“‘The Master’’s cynical bombast defines the worst aspects of our anti-religious era; its solemn audacity is unconvincing (a fashion show scored to Ella Fitzgerald and a naked females musical number recalling ‘Eyes Wide Shut’ are two of the most embarrassingly banal sequences in recent cinema). The fun and fascination of Paul W. S. Anderson’s ‘Resident Evil: Retribution’ proves the work of a true cinema artist; it transforms a genre franchise with visionary newness.”

I am white, but I'm not him. I actually love Polanski's films because I separate the artist from the art.
Ironically, one of the most retarded things americans ever did was thinking "latino" was a race. That is like saying a german shepherd born in México somehow is a "brown race dog".

>Western. Lacks action and spectacle, mediocre female lead. Decent lead performance from Tyrone Power. One nice gunfight in the jail escape. Lovely shots of Power running on top of the train and another where whatshername is standing in the doorway of a house. Hey, Cary Grant's old "friend" Randolph Scott makes an appearance! I think I was suckered into liking this by how good a few of those shots were.

>Steamy melodrama. Stanwyck plays one of her classic feisty broads, Clark Gable is a fine villain. Looks good, proceeds at a good pace and Stanwyck is in almost every scene. Better than I remembered!

>>
>>217232680
>Historical drama. Fonda is fine in this, but doesn't stand out. Colbert was pretty bad. Lots of action and spectacle, especially the final battle and the chase scene. The chase is truly beautiful, Fonda running out of the sunset while followed by Indians should be iconic. It's also a Ford movie that's pretty briskly paced-maybe Technicolor prevented him from shooting as much as he might have wanted to. Not perfect, and with pretty mediocre leads, but really quite good on a technical level.

>An Officer and a Spy > One Battle After Another
Mediocre jewish pitying and the film is from 2019. PTA movie was shit tho.
>Song Sung Blue > Springsteen
Neither movie is particularly good, who gives a fuck about this boomer shit?
>Nouvelle Vague > Jay Kelly
Jay Kelly wasn't particularly liked, Nouvelle Vague got excellent reviews, not even a contrarian take. Also surprised he liked it, he didn't like Blue Moon.
>The Phoenician Scheme > Sentimental Value and Sirât
For some reason he really likes Wes Anderson. Movie was fine. Not better than Sirat at all tho, and it's weird to compare those specifically.
>The Empire > Weapons
Another weird ass comparison. The Empire is from 2024 too. It was mildly entertaining as a shitpost but I'm getting tired of meme Dumont.
>A Minecraft Movie > Sinners
Lol
>Eat The Night > Matt Supreme
I think this is also a movie from 2024
>Marcello Mio and The President’s Wife > Hamnet
One movie from 2024, another from 2024
>Auction > When Fall Is Coming > Misericordia
I think he liked all three here, judging from the comment. And they're all not from 2025.
>Eephus > Train Dreams
Eephus is from 2024, but sure, it's a good movie, definitely better than that shitty Malick pastiche. Hid review seemed lukewarm tho when I read it, but I guess he ended up liking the film overall after all
>Wild Diamond > If I Had Legs I'd Kick You
I had Wild Diamond on a watchlist for some time but yet to get to it. And it's from 2024. I liked Mary Bronstein's film tho. I didn't think it was pitying, the main character is very thoroughly critiqued and put down in every scene with Conan who is the "voice of reason" character.
>Demons at Dawn > The Secret Agent
Some obscure gay porno arthouse compared to an arthouse political thriller? Reaching by a mile.
>When Fall Is Coming > Eddington
Another weird pair of films to compare, nothing in common.
>Happy Gilmore 2 > One Battle After Another
Lol
>>
>Dracula > Frankenstein
He didn't like Dracula much and gave it a very mixed review, and I didn't like it either (you never go full retard and Jude did, it's an overkill of poor taste, just not funny at all) but yeah, obviously the worst Jude will still be better than Del Taco's CGI embarrassment. It's so fucking generic and boring, it's the most artless film Del Taco made after Pacific Rim, yeah I even like Crimson Peak more. There's nothing of note in there, just a straightforward pop adaptation of Frankenstein with terrible CGI, makeup and half of the film looks like it was shot through a pickle jar.
>>

This was a sad installment in the Rapeman Cinematic Universe. I actually felt pretty bummed about certain events. Rapeman was more righteous in this one than the previous two. Horrible people got a taste of vigilante justice. This was the most I've rooted for Rapeman so far.

You have COMPLETELY misunderstood the purpose of /film/. /film/ isn't for surface level commentary. /film/ isn't for quirky one-liners. /film/ is not Reddit, Twitter, or Letterboxd. /film/ is a place for patricians to be passionate. Sensibility, dignity, intelligence, and refinement are core tenets of this place.

If you're unwilling to endure hours of foreign people talking to achieve transcendence, you need to leave.
If you're unwilling to write essays about the nuanced sociological implications in exploitation films, you need to leave.
If you prefer lazy physical action over the intricate psychological conflict between human beings, you need to leave.

We are the envoys of Cinema. We are /film/.
